There was more athletics drama on Thursday at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, but attention now turns to day nine. The action continues to come thick and fast as athletes battle it out for more gold medals. There is plenty of Team GB interest on Friday. Most notably, Katarina Johnson-Thompson will be out to claim a first Olympic medal in the women's heptathlon.

Friday, August 9, promises to be another day of thrilling athletics action at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Could it be the day that Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson ends her long wait for an Olympic medal? We will find out as the women's heptathlon reaches its conclusion with the long jump, javelin and 800m.
There is also no shortage of intrigue ahead of the men's 4x100m relay final. Will Noah Lyles, who confirmed he raced the 200m final with Covid, be on the start line for USA?
Elsewhere, there is plenty of Team GB interest. It remains to be seen who will get the nod for the women's 4x100m final, but whatever quartet is chosen, they will be expected to challenge for a medal.
Great Britain's Amber Anning will be in action in the women's 400m final before Megan Keith and Eilish McColgan go in the women's 10,000m final.
King of the hurdles Karsten Warholm is the strong favourite for gold in the men's 400m hurdles, while there is sure to be drama away from the track in the women's shot put final and men's triple jump.

Women’s 4x100m relay final
Kicking off the evening programme at 18:30 UK time is the women’s 4x100m relay final. A strong line-up includes the Team GB quartet, who qualified with the second-fastest time, meaning they should have a good chance of a medal.
The US team will be tough to stop, while France and Germany also looked strong in progressing into the showdown for gold.
Women’s shot put final
China’s Lijiao Gong will bid to defend her Olympic gold medal in the women’s shot put final, which starts at 18:37.
If she is to make it back-to-back titles, though, she will need to improve on her previous performance. A throw of 18.78m had her down in fifth but there are no medals given out in qualification.
Canada’s Sarah Mitton (19.77m) recorded comfortably the longest throw, from New Zealand’s Maddi Wesche (19.25m) and Netherlands’ Jessica Schilder (18.92m).
Men’s 4x100m relay final
The men’s 4x100m relay final has established itself as one of the most highly anticipated events of the Games.
The big story going into it is the withdrawal of 100m Olympic champion Noah Lyles, who revealed he had contracted Covid after claiming bronze in the 200m.

After being wheeled off the track, Lyles posted on his social media channels to all but confirm that was the final race he would run at Paris 2024.
The post read: "I believe this will be the end of my 2024 Olympics. It is not the Olympics I dreamed of but it has left me with so much Joy in my heart.
"I hope everyone enjoyed the show. Whether you were rooting for me or against me, you have to admit you watched, didn't you?
"See you next time.
"Sincerely, Your world’s fastest man for the next 4 years!"
He said his illness did impact his performance as Bostwana’s Letsile Tebogo secured a first Olympic gold medal for his country.
It is expected that the Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, Kyree King and Courtney Lindsey will run in the final scheduled for 18:47 on Friday night in the French capital.
The American quartet qualified from the heats as the fastest team in a time of 37.47.
Women’s 400m final
There is British interest in the women’s 400m final at 19:00 as Amber Anning goes for gold.
The gold and bronze medallists from Tokyo will not be on the start line, but Olympic silver medallist Marileidy Paulino is among the favourites for the title.

Anning will have to improve on the 50.69s she ran in the semi-finals if she is to challenge for a medal in such a world-class field.
Men’s triple jump final
All three medallists from Tokyo 2020 will be in action in the men’s triple jump final, which gets under way at 19:13.
Portugal’s Pedro Pichardo, the gold medallist from Tokyo, registered the longest jump of 17.44m in qualifying to underline his title credentials.
Spain’s Jordan Diaz (17.24m) was his nearest challenger, with Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist booking his spot in the final with a jump of 17.16m
It is well poised for an enthralling battle for gold.
Women’s heptathlon
The women’s heptathlon comes to a conclusion on Friday with all eyes on Team GB’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson as she aims to capture an elusive Olympic medal.
She is in first place after the first day of action, with the long jump, javelin and 800m still to come.

The world champion holds a narrow advantage over Belgium’s Nafi Thiam and USA’s Anna Hall ahead of what promises to be a dramatic conclusion.
Women’s 10,000m final
The women’s 10,000m final kicks off at 19:57, with two Team GB representatives among the 25 starters.
Megan Keith and Eilish McColgan will carry the hopes of Great Britain as they chase a medal.
But defending champion Sifan Hassan of Netherlands comes into the final as the favourite. The 31-year-old took gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m in Tokyo and claimed bronze in the 1,500m final in Paris.
Men’s 400m hurdles final
Can anyone stop Karsten Warholm in the men’s 400m hurdles final at 20:45? The Norwegian is the defending Olympic gold medallist and is also a three-time world champion.
He is the clear favourite going into the final having come through the rounds with ease.
USA’s Rai Benjamin and Brazil’s Alison dos Santos - the silver and bronze medallists from Tokyo respectively - will be on the start line hoping to dethrone Warholm.
There is also French interest in the form of Clemet Ducos, who ran the second-fastest time in the semi-finals.
