Zurich Diamond League: Yared Nuguse stuns Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Josh Kerr, Sha'Carri Richardson edges Dina Asher-Smith

Yared Nuguse was the surprise winner in the men's 1500m, as Jakob Ingebrigtsen was caught on the final straight at the Zurich Diamond League. In the final regular meet of the season, Sha'Carri Richardson took the women's 200m from Julien Alfred and Dina Asher-Smith, while Letsile Tebogo continued his domination in the men's event. Elsewhere, Britain's Georgia Bell finished second in the 800m.

Yared Nuguse stunned Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Josh Kerr and Olympic champion Cole Hocker to win an enthralling 1500m at the Zurich Diamond League.
The American picked up bronze at Paris 2024 but went two better in the penultimate Diamond League meet of the season.
Norwegian star Ingebrigtsen had three wins out of eight across the distance this term and led heading into the final stretch at the Letzigrund.
But Nuguse steadily chipped away at the 23-year-old’s advantage and pipped him to the line.
Hocker crossed the line in third, with Britain’s Josh Kerr coming home in fifth, just over two seconds off the pace.
Sha’Carri Richardson sealed her second win of the season in an explosive 100m contest, running 10.84s to edge out Julien Alfred by four hundredths of a second.

Winner in Lausanne, Dina Asher-Smith was consigned to third by a whisker, missing out on a runner-up place and a season’s best by 0.01s.
And in the men’s sprint for the evening, Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo continued his domination over 200m with his fourth consecutive victory.
A week after grabbing his first 100m Diamond League triumph of 2024, Tebogo crossed the line in 19.55s, marginally ahead of Kenny Bednarek of the USA.

Despite a distinct lack of British winners on Thursday evening, Georgia Bell and Jemma Reekie both finished in the top four in the women’s 800m.
With no Keely Hodgkinson in attendance due to injury, Olympic bronze medallist Mary Moraa of Kenya took home the victory.
Bell placed third in Paris over the longer middle distance, breaking Laura Muir’s national record in the process, and ran strong in Zurich to take a tight second.
In the field, Wayne Pinnock got the better of two-time Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou, recording 8.18m in the long jump as the Greek had a night to forget.
But Nina Kennedy was not to be denied, backing up her Paris 2024 gold with her fourth Diamond League pole vault win in a row.
It was a feat that fellow vertical jumper Yaroslava Mahuchickh could match, as the Ukrainian cleared 1.96m in the high jump.
And finally in the men’s javelin, Anderson Peters of Grenada secured his second successive win, throwing 85.72m to pip Germany’s Julian Weber.
