Hello and welcome to TNT Sports' coverage of the curling mixed doubles bronze medal match between Great Britain and hosts Italy. In the end, it was more heartbreak for the British duo of Jennifer Dodds and Bruce Mouat, who suffered a 5-3 defeat against the home pairing to miss out on the opportunity to win Team GB's first medal of the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games.

The wait goes on
So, the wait for a medal goes on for Team GB in this year's Winter Olympics.

Disappointment for Brits
It's a big shame for Dodds and Mouat, having been so dominant in the round-robin stage, winning eight of their nine matches.
But in the end, it's a repeat of their debut at Beijing four years ago, losing out in the bronze-medal match.
Italy claim bronze!
Mouat pulls off a nice corner freeze with Britain's penultimate shot, and Italy then catch one of the guard stones as they try to resolve that.
A slight opening for the Brits then, and they find the button with their final shot, though it's a little bit weighty. The pressure is on Italy now, with a good shot needed for the bronze.
It's perfect from the home duo, though, crashing into the Brits' stone in the button, and they have their bronze medal. It's more disappointment for Dodds and Mouat, who settle for fourth once again.

The Brits opt for a guard-shot to start this end, but Italy respond by clearing out one of the two guard stones to keep it open.
The same pattern follows with the teams' second and third shots.

The Italian's go for the freeze in the bottom left of the house, and it's a good effort, with the home duo now having the two closest stones to the centre.
It's a good response from Britain into that bottom left corner, and the Italian's now have to play the perfect freeze to limit the damage in this end.
It's good from Italy, freezing out two British stones, though the shot is maybe slightly short.
Dodds and Mouat are plotting an audacious shot to get four points, but it's just wide of the mark, and they settle for one point.
They now need a steal to stop Italy getting their hands on the bronze.
Italy 4-2 Great Britain
Just two ends remain for Britain to turn this around. What have they got?
Italy look to remove the guard stone straight away, and they play it well. Britain then put a guard stone back in place, looking to protect their pre-placed stone in the house.
Italy look to catch this stone with their next throw, but it's just wide of the mark.
It's a perfect freeze-shot then from the Brits, finishing right on top of the Italian's only stone in the house.
But the Italian's pull off a wonderful take-out shot, sending two of Britain's stones out of the house.
Another good freeze shot from Mouat. So each team with two stones in the house, but Britain in the better position.

It's another good throw from Mouat, colliding with an Italian stone and sending another British stone into the button.
Italy go for the take-out shot and remove the British stones from the button, but it's still Dodds and Mouat who lie closest to the centre with two stones.
The Brits play another super shot, finishing just at the top of the button, and the pressure is now on Italy, who need to play this perfectly to take a point from this end.
And it is perfect! Finishing right in the middle of the button. Italy extend their lead to two again.

Dodds kicks off this sixth end. Can the Brits draw themselves level? It's a nice line from Dodds, perhaps not quite enough weight, falling just short of the button.
It's not the best response from Italy, not catching enough of the British stone and glancing past.
Another good throw from the Brits, knocking their own stone into the button.
Once again, it's not the best from the home team, not colliding fully enough with the pre-placed guarding stone. The Brits restore the guard with their next shot.
The Italians again collide with the guarding stone, looking to send it into the house, but they catch it thin yet again.
The Brits call a time-out for a chat with their coach with two shots left each in this end.
Italy 3-2 Great Britain
Italy once again crowd the left of the house as they look to limit the damage in this end, but again it's a nice shot from Mouat, going down the right and finding the button with a second stone now.
However, it's set up nicely for an Italian take-out shot, and it's pretty good, removing one of the British stones from the button, while it is hard to see now which stone is closest to the centre!
Team GB think theirs is the closest, and they throw away their last stone, settling for the one point, not wanting to risk anything.
The deficit is back to one, but Italy remain in control.

Italy kick off this fifth end with a 3-1 advantage. Can Team GB turn this around?
It's a perfect start again, nudging into the pre-placed stone to finish in the button. It's a decent response from the Brits, but a few inches short of what they would have hoped for.
Italy look to shut off the left of the house, forcing Mouat to go the other way, and it's nicely played from the Brit finding the middle of the button.
Italy's third throw leaves the central British stone isolated in the middle of the house, but Mouat plays a lovely shot to offer them some protection.
Two more throws for each team in this end.

Italy opt for the guard shot with their fourth throw, looking to protect their stone, which is in the button, and it's nicely played.
Mouat takes out one of the Italian stones acting as a guard, and looks to send it into one of their stones in the house, but it's just wide of the mark.
Italy play another guard shot, meaning they once again have two stones guarding the house.
It's a nice final shot from the Brits, though, sending one of the Italian's guarding stones into the house, clearing out many of the stones, and limiting their deficit in this end to just one point.
Italy 2-1 Great Britain
Italy get us underway in the next end, the fourth of eight, and they start well, catching the pre-placed British stone flush and finishing in the button.
It's a solid response from Team GB, finishing in the button too, though it wasn't full in the face of the Italian stone.
It's a high-quality end so far, with both teams finding the button with their second throws.
Italy's third throw is also bang on the money, but Mouat is then a bit wayward, coming in a bit aggressively.
It's nicely poised heading into the final two throws!

It's a good effort from Team GB, deflecting off their own stone to find the button with their fourth throw.
Italy come with pace, though, and it's an excellent take-out shot, removing both of Britain's stones from the centre of the house.
The home team are now set to score two points before the final throws.
It's a beauty from Dodds, though, with an excellent line and weight to move the Brits into pole position.
Italy can still take this end, but they are unlikely to get more than one point. The home side pull off a super shot of their own, with their final throw, finishing on the button to give them the lead.

So after winning the second end, Team GB kick off this third end. It's slightly wayward to start with, not fully colliding with the Italian's pre-placed stone in the house.
The home team start well, finding the button with their first throw. It's a good response from Britain, removing the Italian stone from the button.
It's lovely from Italy again, though, with an excellent line on their second throw and finishing just above the button. This, too, is knocked away by Britain.
The third Italian throw is a little short of pace. Can Britain capitalise?

It's another excellent throw from Italy, with the stone landing right in the centre of the house.
Mouat responds well, though, going full into the Italian stone on the button, and leaving the British stone in the centre.
Italy manage to crowd around the British stone on the button with their next throw, making it difficult for Britain to get anything more than a point from this end.
It's a great attempt from Dodds and Mouet, but they fall inches short of a second point. It's all square, though!

With Italy taking the opening end, Britain will have the last stone once again in this second end, which the home team start with another solid guard shot.
Dodds and Mouat respond well, finding the house, just in front of Italy's pre-placed stone.
Italy's second stone is a little wayward, and Mouat can remove it from the house on his next turn.
The home side's third throw is more accurate, finishing on the edge of the button, with some cover from a British stone.
Mouat glances the edge of it, just pushing it away from the button, but it remains the most central stone. Two throws left for each team in this end.
Italy 1-0 Great Britain
Italy manage to nudge Britain's stone away from the button, occupying it themselves, but a gap opens for Mouat and Dodds to potentially capitalise on.
They go just wide of the mark, though, catching their own stone before striking the Italian's and the home team take a 1-0 lead.
Italy 0-0 Great Britain
Neither team gets close to the centre of the house with their first stones, with Italy playing a guard shot and Great Britain not putting enough weight on theirs.
But Italy's next three attempts are excellent, going close to the centre of the house with each.
And Britain respond well on each occasion, knocking the Italian's stones away from the button.
HERE WE GO!
We are underway, with Italy up first in the opening end.
SUMMARY OF RULES AND SCORING
In mixed doubles, there are two players on each team, with each team getting five stones, as well as a pre-placed stone.
Players send their stones down a narrow strip of ice towards the house, sliding as they line up their shot, and must let go before arriving at a marker known as the hog line. Any stones that touch the sides or go past the house are removed from the game.
The points are totalled up when all 10 stones have been played, with the match continuing over eight ends – effectively eight separate mini-games of curling. There is a house at both the top and bottom of the ice, with the start points alternating each end.
Closest to the button wins. If a team has multiple stones closer to the button than the opposition, they get that many points.
DISAPPOINTMENT AFTER DOMINANCE
Dodds and Mouat dominated the round-robin stage with eight victories from their nine matches - a run which included a 7-4 win over Sweden on Friday.
Only Switzerland managed to defeat Team GB in the round-robin stage - setting up a seemingly favourable play-off field - with Dodds and Mouat having defeated all three of the other semi-finalists.

'We will come and fight', says Mouat
Speaking after defeat to Sweden on Monday, Bruce Mouat told TNT Sports: "We struggled with our weight control today, we were heavy with a lot of things, and that is going to hurt you with mixed doubles - if you don’t get control of the top of the house you are going to be in trouble and that’s exactly what happened.
"We know what we did wrong, which is probably the first thing we need to admit to ourselves, and we are still in a pretty good position coming out with the hammer in the bronze medal game. We are not totally down and out, we will come and fight."

CAN DUO GO ONE BETTER THAN BEIJING?
Dodds and Mouat will now hope they can go one better than in Beijing and claim that bronze medal, after being denied, once again, by Sweden in 2022.
DODDS AND MOUAT TARGET FIRST GB MEDAL
Jennifer Dodds and Bruce Mouat take on hosts Italy in the bronze-medal match, aiming to win Team GB's first medal of the Winter Olympics.
The pair would have been hoping to go for gold, but they suffered a crushing semi-final defeat against Sweden on Monday, four years on from their loss at the same stage on their Olympic debuts in Beijing.
The scores were all square following the fifth end, but just two ends later, they were 9-3 down, facing an insurmountable deficit, with Sweden scoring five in the sixth.
