Giro d'Italia 2025: Jonas Vingegaard hails ‘really impressive’ Visma-Lease A Bike team-mate Wout van Aert ahead of Tour de France preparations

Wout van Aert is enjoying a fine run at this year's Giro d'Italia, and Jonas Vingegaard has been keeping a close eye on the 30-year-old's performances. The Dane has had some time to kill in his break from competitive cycling, as he focuses on being in prime physical condition for the Tour de France in July. Attention is very much on the Giro for now, with Stage 15 taking place on Sunday.

Jonas Vingegaard praised the performance of Visma-Lease A Bike team-mate Wout van Aert at the Giro d’Italia, as anticipation grows ahead of the Tour de France.
Vingegaard has been recovering after sustaining concussion symptoms following his crash at Paris-Nice, and is focused on a return at the Criterium du Dauphine in June before competing at the Tour.
The 28-year-old has been watching Van Aert closely during his break from action, and is relishing the prospect of competing alongside the Belgian when the Tour begins on July 5.
Van Aert claimed victory on Stage 9 in this year’s Giro and has been a consistent performer in this Grand Tour, something which Vingegaard believes is even more impressive given how his team-mate’s preparations were blighted by sickness and the lingering effects of a serious knee injury he picked up last year.
He told TNT Sports: "It's been really impressive to see how he's been doing. I know he was sick before the Giro, so it's really nice to see how he's come back and to win the stage he won.
"I know what he's been through in the last year, so it’s obviously nice to see him coming back like that.
"We've been watching it every day, on the television after training."

Van Aert appears to be hitting form at the right time, and his importance to Visma cannot be underestimated.
Vingegaard feels the 30-year-old's ability to play the supporting role and win stages makes him a crucial asset at the Tour.
"I think everyone has seen in the past what Wout can do when he's at his best," Vingegaard said. "So obviously it's very nice to see how he's doing now in the Giro.
"I'm pretty sure that he will be on a super-high level again in the Tour de France, and I'm really looking forward to racing with him again."

For now, the focus is on the Giro after Kasper Asgreen (EF Education-EasyPost) claimed victory with a fine solo win at Stage 14.
Attention turns to Stage 15 on Sunday, which sees riders take to the mountains for a 219km route from Fiume to Asiago.
