Remco Evenepoel: Soudal-QuickStep rider discharged from hospital after successful collarbone surgery

Remco Evenepoel has been released from hospital after he received surgery on a broken collarbone that he sustained during the fourth stage of the Itzulia Basque Country. The Belgian, the Soudal-QuickStep rider, went down with ten other riders, including Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard, in a high-speed collision on the Olaeta mountain with 36km to go. Vingegaard also broke his collarbone.

Remco Evenepoel has been discharged from hospital after he was treated for a fractured collarbone which he sustained in a crash at Itzulia Basque Country.
The Soudal-QuickStep rider suffered the injury on stage four of the race with 36km to go on the Olaeta mountain.
Now, his team have issued a statement to confirm that Evenepoel’s surgery was successful.
"Following his crash on Thursday’s Stage 4 of Itzulia Basque Country, Remco Evenepoel underwent surgery on Saturday to the broken collarbone that he sustained in the incident," it read.
"The surgery was carried out by Dr Steven Claes without complication, and the Belgian Champion - a winner of four races this season - has been discharged to recuperate."
The team have not yet confirmed how long the Belgian rider will be out of action for, or when he will be able to return to training and racing.
Evenepoel issued a statement after his injuries were confirmed that his long-term plans would not be changed. His aim for at the start of the season was to make his debut at the Tour de France, which gets underway on June 29.
Several top riders were also involved in the collision, including Primoz Roglic (Bora-Hansgrohe), Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates).
Visma-Lease a Bike said that their rider, Vingegaard, also broke his collarbone and a couple of ribs, while UAE Team Emirates said that Vine broke multiple bones.
An update was issued on Vingegaard this weekend, with the team confirming he was showing improvement day on day.
