Tadej Pogacar sets out 'wish' to compete at 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles - but admits goal is 'not exactly in the interests of my team'

Tadej Pogacar has expressed his desire to compete at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, despite saying that it would not be "in the interests" of his UAE Team Emirates-XRG team to tailor his schedule.

Setting out his ambitions for the next two seasons after hosting the 'Pogi Challenge' charity event in his hometown of Komenda, Pogacar said that his primary goal for now is Paris-Roubaix.
The Slovenian star has just won his fifth Tour de France title and is set to start La Vuelta a Espana later in August the only Grand Tour he is yet to win.
"I also want to win another world championship and a stage race," he said. "But the big goal remains Paris-Roubaix."
With recent wins at Milano-San Remo, Tour de Romandie, Tour de Suisse and Tour of Flanders in 2026, Pogacar could make it a clean sweep of cycling's Monuments and most prestigious one-week stage races over the course of the next two years.
But the Olympics could be the jewel in the crown for Pogacar, who can see the Games on the horizon and is already thinking about competing in Los Angeles.
Pogacar was forced to withdraw from the Paris Games in 2024 owing to tiredness. Should he feature in LA in 2028, it will be his first Olympic appearance since 2020.
In Tokyo, he claimed the bronze medal in the road race but he wants to go two steps further in two years' time.

"The Olympics are, of course, another race I would like to win," he said.
"They only come around once every four years, so I would have to tailor my programme to be in the right shape at that time.
"At the same time, this race is not exactly in the interests of my team. But these are my wishes and I think the team will take them into account."
