Ineos Grenadiers team member fined £4650 after hitting spectator with car during Stage 14 breakaway at Tour de France 2025

An Ineos Grenadiers team member has been fined 5000 CHF (£4650) and given a yellow card by the Tour de France commissaires after their support car appeared to collide with a spectator. The incident took place on the Col de Peyresourde, with 32.6km to go on Stage 14. The car was following a breakaway, featuring Ineos’ Thymen Arensman and Carlos Rodriguez, with the former winning the race.

A driver of an Ineos Grenadiers support car has been fined after appearing to hit a spectator standing on the side of the road on Stage 14 of the Tour de France.
Sports director Oliver Cookson, who was driving the vehicle, was fined 5000 CHF (£4650) and given a yellow card by the Tour de France commissaires for the incident, which was deemed as "incorrect behaviour that endangers spectators".
As per the official communique, via Cycling News, the jury cited article 1.12.007-8.2.2 of the UCI rules for their decision.
Television footage showed an Ineos car collide with a spectator on the Col du Peyresourde, with 32.6km to go on Stage 14.
The car immediately stopped, as the spectator rolled on the bonnet of the vehicle before falling to the floor.
The Tour have not yet provided a medical update on the spectator’s condition.
"Our thoughts and sincere apologies go out to the fan who was accidentally and regretfully hit by one of our race cars while supporting the riders during today's stage," Ineos-Grenadiers said in a statement.
"Like all teams we take great care to maintain a safe race environment for everyone - including the passionate fans who make our sport so special."
The car was following a breakaway, featuring Ineos’ Thymen Arensman and Carlos Rodriguez. The former would eventually go on to win the stage, to become the team's first Tour stage victor since 2023.
The Col du Peyresourde was the day’s third climb, and packed with cheering fans on the side of the road as the breakaway riders darted through, followed by the Ineos team vehicle and two official motorbikes that were part of the race.
Officials confirmed in their post-race communique that Cookson was fined and had received a yellow card.
Under the UCI’s new warning system, which was introduced earlier this season, should Cookson receive another yellow before the conclusion of the Tour, he would be disqualified from the race and handed a seven-day suspension.
