Manchester United bounced back from defeat to Chelsea in the Women's Super League title race with a thumping win over rivals Liverpool to propel themselves back into the conversation. Elisabeth Terland, Leah Galton, Dominique Janssen and Melvine Malard were all on target in their biggest WSL win of the season. Manchester City beat Leicester, and Chelsea defeated Brighton 4-0 on Sunday.

Manchester United beat Liverpool 4-0 in the Women's Super League on Sunday to keep in touch with Manchester City and Chelsea at the top of the table, as Chelsea beat Brighton 4-2 and Arsenal downed Aston Villa 4-0.

Marc Skinner's side suffered a bruising defeat to Chelsea in their last match in a big blow to their title aspirations, but goals from Elisabeth Terland, Leah Galton, Dominique Janssen and Melvine Malard helped them bounce back in style.

United took the lead on 33 minutes at Leigh Sports Village when Terland raced clear and slotted beyond goalkeeper Teagan Micah with a neat effort, which kissed the post on its way over the line.

And it was two quick-fire goals for United, who gave themselves some breathing space as Galton doubled their lead a minute later with a thumping finish into the roof of the net.

The home side bolstered their lead in the second half when Janssen guided the ball from the edge of the box and into the bottom right corner with a sweet first-time strike - her first goal for the club after joining from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer.

If the three points were not already in the bag, they were when France international Malard struck nine minutes before full-time with a well-taken volley at the back post, which Micah could not keep out, to hand Skinner's side their biggest WSL win of the season.

United now sit in fourth place in the table, with rivals City, Arsenal, and leaders Chelsea above them.

Man City trounce Leicester, Spurs edge Everton

Khadija Shaw scored twice as Man City kept in touch with Chelsea with a dominant 4-0 win over Leicester City at the Manchester City Joie Stadium.

Shaw opened the scoring with a header in the second minute and doubled the hosts' lead on 29 minutes for a first-half brace.

Jess Park put City in further control when she drove into the box and struck past Janina Leitzig, before Mary Fowler added gloss to the scoreline just before the hour mark.

Over at Brisbane Road, Bethany England struck twice to earn Tottenham Hotspur a 2-1 win over Everton.

England stabbed in from close range to give Spurs the lead, before scoring a penalty to cancel out Sara Holmgaard's emphatic equaliser.

Chelsea maintain perfect start against Brighton

Chelsea strengthened their grip on top position in the league with a 4-2 victory over Brighton.

Chelsea were convincing winners at Kingsmeadow, and were aided by two goals separated by just five minutes. The first came from Sjoeke Nusken, before Aggie Beever-Jones doubled their lead.

Brighton pulled one back before the end of the half through Jelena Cankovic, but after the restart, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd added the home side’s third.

The visitors were persistent, and Kiko Seike reduced the lead to a single goal with 20 minutes remaining, before Nusken completed her brace in stoppage time.

Chelsea keep their 100 percent record in the WSL, with Brighton moving down to fifth spot.

Russo scores again as Arsenal beat Villa

Alessio Russo scored in her fourth straight WSL match as Arsenal thrashed Aston Villa 4-0.

The victory also took the home side to an eight-match undefeated streak under manager Renee Slegers, who had to do without injured midfield pair Lia Walti and Kim Little.

Russo scored in the 17th minute as she headed in Kyra Cooney-Cross’ free-kick. Beth Mead made it two when she was first to a rebound, and Stina Blackstenius added another in the second half.

Russo then found the top corner in stoppage time to complete the victory, moving Arsenal back into third, ahead of Manchester United. Arsenal are now nine points behind Chelsea. Villa are a point above the drop zone.

In the day's other game, West Ham travelled to Crystal Palace to secure a crushing 5-2 win. The victory takes West Ham to eighth spot, while Palace remain bottom.
