In the Premier League, Nottingham Forest continue to fight against relegation, while Aston Villa are looking to secure a UEFA Champions League spot for next season.

However, the teams will also be battling each other in Europe as they clash in the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Forest host the first leg at the City Ground and will go into it buoyed by their 5-0 trouncing of Sunderland in the league last weekend.

Villa, meanwhile, looked well below par in their 1-0 defeat against Fulham last time out.

Standout performances from Unai Emery's side in Europe have seen them pick up the favourites tag throughout the competition after breezing through the league phase with just one defeat.

They have gone on to see off Lille and Bologna with ease in the knockout phase.

It has not been such an easy ride for Forest, though, after they needed a play-off win against Fenerbahce to reach the latter stages of the competition.

A penalty shoot-out victory against Midtjylland followed in the last 16, before an impressive win against Porto set up this all-English showdown in the semi-finals.

Ollie Watkins says the pain of Aston Villa’s recent UEFA Conference League semi-final loss to Olympiacos is driving their bid to reach the UEFA Europa League final.

Villa were soundly beaten 6-2 on aggregate by the Greek club in the last four of the 2023/24 season, and Watkins says the memory still lingers as extra motivation.

”I think you always want to put it right. Losing to Olympiacos was horrible,” he told TNT Sports.

”We had such high hopes in that competition, we were doing really well, playing good football, scoring a lot of goals.

”Olympiacos punished us at home and going away to their place was always going to be tough. That atmosphere was amazing and one of the best I’ve played in. They scored an early goal and yeah, that was kind of the end of it, really.

”Those feelings, you always remember that and you want to use it as motivation to go one more.”
