Atletico Madrid have begun talks with Manchester City to sign Argentina striker Julian Alvarez, while Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah may miss out on a move to Marseille. Elsewhere, Ivan Toney may stay at Brentford for the upcoming Premier League season, and Liverpool are considering a loan move for Bobby Clark with interest from Europe and the Championship.

Atletico start Alvarez talks
Atletico Madrid are hoping to sign Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.
The Daily Mail reports that they have opened talks with the Premier League side, and may face competition from Paris Saint-Germain.
The paper writes: “Atletico Madrid have started negotiations with Manchester City over a possible deal for Julian Alvarez.
“Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the forward.
“Diego Simeone's Atletico attempted to sign Alvarez earlier this summer but were unable to finalise a deal.
“It is anticipated that the Argentina international could cost over ÂŁ70 million.Â
“There is much uncertainty over Alvarez's future at City, with the 24-year-old eager to feature more prominently.”
Nketiah’s move to Marseille in doubt
Arsenal are holding out for ÂŁ30 million for striker Eddie Nketiah, which may prevent a move to Marseille.
Marseille have had several bids rejected for the forward, and have now turned their attention to Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko.
The Mirror reports: “Eddie Nketiah's proposed move to Marseille has taken a twist after the French giants reportedly opened talks with Borussia Dortmund over a loan-to-buy swoop for Youssoufa Moukoko.
“Arsenal are understood to have rejected three bids from Marseille for the 25-year-old England international as their £30 million valuation is yet to have been met.
“Reports suggest Moukoko has already agreed to move to the Stade Velodrome, snubbing interest from Spain, Germany and Southampton, as the two clubs move closer towards an agreement that would surely plunge a deal for Nketiah into doubt.
“Arsenal believe £30m is fair market value for an England international striker with Champions League experience and 19 Premier League goals to his name and therefore, they do not intend to sell the 25-year-old on the cheap.”
Toney in limbo at Brentford
Ivan Toney may struggle to get a high-profile move this summer, according to the Evening Standard.
The 28-year-old forward’s form declined at the end of last season, and both Chelsea and Arsenal have other options.
The paper explains: “The news this week that injury will keep Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund out for six weeks threw Ivan Toney's name immediately back into the transfer speculation ether.
“Toney’s transfer value has dropped dramatically. Said to be as much as £80 million when he scored four goals in his first five matches after returning from his ban in the new year, he finished the season on a 12-game goal drought.
“Last season, Brentford manager Thomas Frank often addressed the distinct possibility that Toney might leave this summer, however, Bees chiefs are now resigned to the fact they would do well to get £40m-£50m for him.
“Once wanted by Chelsea and Arsenal, it is now difficult to see who might want Toney, even at a reduced price.”
Liverpool consider Clark future
The Athletic reports on the future of two youngsters, Bobby Clark and Tyler Morton.
Both are attracting interest from abroad, with some Championship sides keen on loaning Clark.
The website claims: “Liverpool are in no rush to make a decision on Bobby Clark’s future in the face of strong interest from Red Bull Salzburg.
“The 19-year-old midfielder missed the current tour of the US due to a back problem but has since returned to training with the club’s under-21s at Kirkby.
“Austrian side Salzburg, who are managed by Jurgen Klopp’s former assistant Pep Lijnders, are keen to sign him, but Liverpool want at least £12 million ($15.3m) to consider sanctioning a permanent move.
“At this stage a loan is deemed more likely with Championship clubs Norwich City, Leeds United, Sheffield United and Coventry City also among his suitors.
“Another young Liverpool midfielder, Tyler Morton, has been attracting interest from RB Leipzig and Atalanta among others.”
