Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has said Erling Haaland's imperious goalscoring form "doesn't get to our head", as Mikel Arteta's side prepare for a trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Arsenal midfielder Jorginho chose to see the funny side in Erling Haaland's prolific early-season form, claiming the frequency of the Norway international's goals "is starting to make us laugh".

Mikel Arteta's side face a trip to the Etihad on Sunday, tasked with stifling the star striker who has scored nine goals in Manchester City's opening four Premier League matches - individually notching more goals than any team in the top-flight so far.

But Jorginho responded to Haaland's imperious form in front of goal, saying "it doesn't get to our head", as Arteta's side look to gain an early-season advantage on the Premier League champions.

“Erling scoring again… it is starting to make us laugh,” Jorginho said in quotes first reported by The Mirror. “We look because we look at all the games and we love football. We love the Premier League so we watch all the games. We watch [City] as well, which is normal.

“It doesn’t get to our head. We need to focus on us and that is what we are trying to do.”

Arsenal and City were locked into two low-scoring affairs in the previous campaign, with Arteta's side prevailing 1-0 at the Emirates before playing out a 0-0 stalemate in Manchester.

But their efforts against the Premier League champions were ultimately in vain, as Guardiola's side claimed their fourth consecutive league title after a formidable late-season run of form.

Jorginho spoke about Arsenal's ever-improving mentality, as the north London club look to go one further to claim a first top-flight title since 2003/04.

“The team is working together, going through the process together," he said. “You learn more about each other. You just get better because everyone wants to improve and wants the best for the team.

"When you put the team in first place I think just good things can happen. You need to keep in this way. Keep believing in what you are doing. I think we are on the right way.”

While the 0-0 draw at the Etihad last season seemed a positive result for the Gunners, Jorginho said his side must become relentless winners to take as many points off their title rivals as possible.

“If you want to achieve big things you need to have the mentality of trying to win every single game,” Jorginho said. “That is what we need to do and that is what we want to do.”
