It has been confirmed that Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury. The Premier League club have now issued an official statement recognising the extent of the injury, which looks set to rule him out for the remainder of the season. United are currently sat in 13th place in the Premier League table after the club's seventh loss in 13 home games.

Lisandro Martinez will likely play no further part in the current campaign for Manchester United after a statement from his club confirmed that he has suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury.
His manager, Ruben Amorim, was quick to describe the injury as a "serious situation" following the club's chastening defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The 27-year-old defender had to be taken away on a stretcher during the Premier League encounter at Old Trafford, and now the news that fans had feared has been announced.
"Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace," the statement from the club read.
"Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation.
"Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martinez strength for a successful recovery and we will be supporting him every step of the way."
Martinez's injury represents a further blow for Amorim with his side languishing badly in 13th position in the Premier League table.
After the defeat to Palace, Amorim said: "Licha [Martinez] is really important for us, not just as a football player but the character he has, especially in this hard moment.
"Now it's time for us to help Licha."

To further compound the frustration for United, the BBC reports that there are renewed doubts over the fitness of left-back Luke Shaw, who has not started a match for the club for almost a year.
