Forest want Silva to replace Postecoglou

Nottingham Forest view Fulham boss Marco Silva as the ideal long-term target to replace Ange Postecoglou should the Australian be sacked by owner Evangelos Marinakis, the Daily Mail reports.
Postecoglou is set for showdown talks with Marinakis after a winless seven games to the start of his reign, although any pursuit of Silva may not take place until the end of the season.
The Mail adds: "Though Silva is out of contract at Fulham at the end of the season, he has a high release clause in his current deal that puts him out of reach of all but the wealthiest clubs.
"It is also understood Silva was sounded out by Portuguese giants Benfica last season but would not have returned to his homeland at that time.
"It remains unclear when - or if - Forest will call time on the tenure of Postecoglou, who was appointed only on September 9 after the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo. Of his seven games, five ended in defeat, with draws against Burnley and Real Betis."

Palace’s plan to keep Wharton

Crystal Palace have plans to offer Adam Wharton a new contract with improved terms that could also include a release clause as they bid to hold onto the midfielder who boasts a long list of admirers, the Daily Mail reports.
Premier League champions Liverpool are said to be keen on Wharton, who missed out on England’s latest squad, so too Chelsea and Manchester City.
The Mail adds: "Tottenham made an approach at the end of last season, Real Madrid have watched him regularly for the past year, while Bayern Munich scouts have also compiled reports and made enquiries for the youngster, who cost Palace a bargain £18 million from Blackburn Rovers in 2024 and is now valued in the £75m bracket.
"Wharton remains level-headed and happy at Palace, but all parties are aware he will have two years left on his contract come next summer, which is the usual juncture for discussions on new terms."

Man Utd to rethink Baleba pursuit

Manchester United may hesitate to go back in for midfielder Carlos Baleba after the Cameroon international stayed at Brighton & Hove Albion, the Mirror reports.
Baleba was linked with a big-money move to Old Trafford in the summer, but after a number of questionable transfers in recent years, United appear reluctant to make another potential error in judgement.
The Mirror adds: "The midfielder has endured a season to forget ever since being told he would remain at the Amex.
"It was well documented that The Red Devils wanted to bolster their midfield, but ultimately failed to land any new face in that area. It remains a problem position and the expectation was that they would return to see if they could lure Baleba away from The Seagulls next year.
"In light of his performances, though, a rethink could be on the cards at Old Trafford. After all, United have been stung numerous times in the transfer market, spending huge sums on players, only to see them underwhelm in a red shirt."
