Liverpool begin the season with a trip to St James' Park to play Newcastle United, who under-performed last season but are typically formidable opposition at home.

After some winnable games in August and September, The Reds host Manchester City in mid-October, before back-to-back matches against Manchester United and Everton in late November.

Iraola's side take on newly-promoted Hull City away from home on Boxing Day, and start the new year with a match against another promoted side in Coventry City at Anfield.

When is Liverpool v Arsenal?

If Liverpool hope to regain the Premier League title, beating champions Arsenal is likely to be key.

Iraola's team host The Gunners on October 31 and travel to The Emirates on February 6.

Liverpool beat Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield in August last year thanks to a superb Dominik Szoboszlai free-kick.

At that point, a strong start to the season suggested Slot's side would challenge for the title again, but by the time of the reverse fixture - a goalless draw in January - Liverpool had fallen 14 points behind Mikel Arteta's leaders.

When is the Merseyside derby?

The first Merseyside derby of the season is on November 28 at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Liverpool host Everton in the reverse fixture on January 30.

The Reds won both matches against their city rivals last season, both 2-1 victories.

Virgil van Dijk memorably headed in an injury-time winner to silence the Everton crowd in April.

When is Liverpool v Manchester United?

Liverpool face United at Anfield on November 21, a week before playing Everton.

The reverse fixture at Old Trafford - on January 23 - is also a week before the second Merseyside derby.

That could well prove to be a crucial week in the Premier League season for Liverpool, who lost both games against United last season.

When will Liverpool play in the Champions League?

Liverpool have qualified directly for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League after finishing fifth in the Premier League last season.
