Jose Mourinho hits out after allegedly being insulted '50 times' by Porto coach Lucho Gonzalez in Benfica draw - 'Traitor of what?'

Jose Mourinho saw red for the second time in three weeks as his Benfica side came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Primeira Liga rivals Porto at the Estadio da Luz. The former Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager had some strong words after allegedly being called a "traitor" in the tunnel by a member of his former club's coaching team.

Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho has seen red again – and he did not go quietly.

Mourinho was sent off late in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Primeira Liga rivals Porto, the team he led to the UEFA Champions League trophy in 2003/04.

Benfica had trailed their rivals by two goals in Lisbon, but Mourinho’s side fought back, and he has claimed that he was wrongly dismissed for kicking a ball towards the Porto bench after Leandro Barreiro equalised in the 88th minute.

"Regarding my sending off, the referee says he sent me off because I kicked a ball at the Porto bench, which is completely false," said Mourinho.

"I don't know if it was three, four, or if it was five times, but I've done it many times here at the Estadio da Luz. We score a goal, ball into the stands. "

Mourinho alleged that Porto coach Lucho Gonzalez, also sent off, called him a "traitor" in the tunnel.

"The member of the Porto bench, who was also sent off and who, in the tunnel, called me a traitor 50 times," said the former Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager.

"I would like him to explain to me, traitor of what? Traitor of what?

"I was at Porto. I gave my soul to Porto. I went to Chelsea and I gave my soul to Chelsea. I went to Inter, I went to Real Madrid and I went to Fenerbahce.

"I went and travelled the world, and gave my soul. I gave my life. I gave 24 hours of my life every day. I think this is called professionalism.

"One thing is the insults from the fans, the insults from football fans. They are the same fans who years ago, I couldn't walk in the city without them kneeling at my feet.

"Now they insult me. There is absolutely no problem with that, but a professional colleague calling me a traitor. Why? Traitor for what, for giving everything to Benfica?"

The result leaves third-placed Benfica seven points behind league leaders Porto.

Mourinho was also sent off in the first leg of Benfica’s Champions League tie against Real Madrid, another of his former clubs.

The 63-year-old’s response to an alleged racist remark from Gianluca Prestianni aimed at Vinicius Junior drew criticism.

Mourinho later said that he would be "finished" with Prestianni if he was proven to have made a racist insult.

"If the player is guilty, I will not look him in the eye again, and he has finished with me, but I need to insert many ‘ifs’ in front," he said.

"I am against all forms of discrimination, of racism. If my player did not respect these principles, which are also those of Benfica, his career with a manager named Mourinho and in a club like Benfica is over."
