Cristiano Ronaldo wins first major trophy with Al-Nassr, scores twice as club clinch Saudi Pro League title on final day

Al-Nassr claimed the Saudi Pro League title on Thursday, with victory over Dhamk handing Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo his first major trophy since moving to Asia.

Al-Nassr secured their first league title since 2019 on the final day of the season thanks to a 4-1 victory over Dhamk at King Saud University Stadium.

Ronaldo scored Al-Nassr's final two goals after Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman had given the side a two-goal lead.

Morlaye Sylla did pull a goal back for Dhamk but Ronaldo's free-kick from a tight angle and close-range finish sealed the victory and the title for Al-Nassr.

It means Ronaldo, 41, picks up his first major piece of silverware since joining the club in 2023.

It comes just days after Al-Nassr missed out on wrapping up the title in the penultimate game of the season, after a 98th-minute own goal from goalkeeper Bento against title rivals Al-Hilal in a 1-1 draw.

Ronaldo was caught on camera bursting into tears on the bench after the final whistle.

After scoring his second goal against Dhamk, Ronaldo was in tears once again as he pointed to his supporters in the crowd.

In recent weeks, Al-Nassr also lost in the final of the Asian Champions League Two, the continent's second-tier competition.

And heading into Thursday's final day, Al-Nassr needed to better the result of Al-Hilal to remain atop the table.

After a nervy opening half an hour, the home side took the lead in the 34th minute when Mane headed home from a Joao Felix corner.

They doubled their lead shortly after half-time through a perfectly placed strike from distance from Coman, his arrowed effort flying into the bottom corner.

And despite being pegged back by Sylla, Ronaldo stepped up with just under half an hour remaining and fired a free-kick across the box, with it sneaking into the bottom corner.

In the final 10 minutes, the Portugal captain grabbed his second of the game by blasting the ball home from close range.

The emotion of the moment appeared to catch up with Ronaldo in the aftermath of his second, as he broke down in tears as he celebrated.

He was substituted to a huge ovation with minutes to play, and was in tears on the bench as he celebrated with team-mates.

After the final whistle blew in Riyadh, Ronaldo celebrated on the pitch with a Portugal flag wrapped round his neck.

The defeat and Al-Riyadh's victory over Al Akhdoud meant that Dhamk were relegated to the Saudi First Division.

The title caps off a successful season for Ronaldo, finishing with 28 goals in 30 Saudi Pro League appearances.

Since joining Al Nassr, he has 102 goals in 107 league appearances.

At the age of 41, Ronaldo is set to lead the line for Portugal at this summer's World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
