England star Beth Mead joins WSL champions Manchester City on three-year deal after Arsenal departure - 'I’m here to win'

The England star has put pen to paper on a three-year deal and explained that her decision was down to her desire to win silverware.

"Trophies. I’m here to win," she told the club's official website on Friday.

"I’ve won things in the past and I want to keep winning things moving forward with City. Why not go for it all?

"We’ve got the Champions League this season, once you win something you become hungrier to win it more.

"That winning feeling will never get old, and I think it’ll be a hungry team next year that I’m looking forward to being a part of."

Mead spent nine seasons at Arsenal, where she made 265 appearances and netted 86 goals. 

The England international, who joined The Gunners from Sunderland in 2017, won the 2018/19 Women’s Super League and the 2025 UEFA Champions League while in north London.

However, Mead found game-time harder to come by in her final Arsenal campaign, but still played an important part in helping the club reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, recording three goals and assists in the competition - before their exit to OL Lyonnes.

The 31-year-old will provide depth on the flanks at City, where she will be competing with the likes of Lauren Hemp, Kerolin and Aoba Fujino for a place in Andree Jeglertz's side.

The move also sees Mead back in the same team as her partner, Vivianne Miedema.

On City pipping The Gunners to the post in the WSL title race last term, Mead said: ”I think over the years it’s always been about who gets their tactics right and executes them the best.

”Two very good footballing teams, I just think this season City have found that way to win, however it looks.

”I think sometimes it’s easy to say that and then execute it, but they’ve done that to a T this year.

”I love the way they play, the freedom they get when they’re playing, and I think that’s something that’ll really suit me as a player, so hopefully I can help bring something new to the team.”
