Premier League champions Liverpool had been keen to add Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi to their squad but, despite a fee being agreed between the clubs on deadline day, the transfer failed to proceed due to Palace pulling the plug on the deal. Reports suggest Palace's failure to land Igor Julio from Brighton meant they did not have an adequate replacement for Guehi.

Marc Guehi’s move from Crystal Palace to Liverpool is off, according to reports.
Palace had accepted a reported ÂŁ35 million offer on deadline day and even granted permission for a medical to go ahead.
However, after a deal collapsed for an adequate replacement, Palace chair Steve Parish and manager Oliver Glasner agreed they would have to pull the deal.
It’s believed the deal in question involved Brighton's Igor Julio - who was more in favour of a move to West Ham United instead of Palace.
Despite signing defender Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse, this was not seen as enough by the Palace hierarchy to be able to let their captain move to Anfield.
Guehi will now remain at Palace, but will have just six months remaining on his current contract when the January transfer window opens.

That will leave him able to negotiate a free transfer with foreign clubs during that window and, if he does not agree a new deal at Selhurst Park, he could leave for free next summer.
Guehi has been a key part of Palace’s recent success - inspiring The Eagles to the first major trophy in their history last term, captaining a side who conceded just one goal on the way to glory in the FA Cup.
The defender arrived at Selhurst Park in July 2021 from Chelsea and has gone on to break into the England side, impressing as part of the defence that reached the final of Euro 2024.
He now has 23 international caps to his name.
Guehi made 44 appearances for Palace during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring three goals and pitching in with two assists.
That helped them to another 12th-placed finish in the Premier League table.
However, Glasner's side etched their name into Palace folklore by beating Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final last May.
Guehi played a key role in an excellent defensive display from The Eagles but was forced off the field in the 61st minute due to an eye injury.
