Man Utd’s interest in Aurelien Tchouameni this summer transfer window hinges on one Man City exit – Paper Round

The Red Devils have put the France international high on their shortlist of midfield replacements for Casemiro this summer, the Telegraph reports, although any move could hinge on whether Rodri leaves Manchester City.

Tchouameni, 26, is contracted until 2028 at Real, although he could leave in order to free up room for City’s Madrid-born midfielder Rodri.

The Telegraph adds: ”Rodri is out of contract at the end of next season and City have offered him a new deal, but if Real opt to formalise their interest in the 29-year-old it could open the door for United to move for Tchouameni. Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez has also been fluttering his eyelashes in Real’s direction.

”Reports in Spain have suggested that Real are also willing to listen to offers for Tchouameni’s club and international team-mate, Eduardo Camavinga, as an alternative route to raise funds.

”City are the front-runners to sign another of United’s leading midfield targets, Elliot Anderson. Nottingham Forest are thought to want at least £100m for the England midfielder and their prospects of receiving that will be improved if they avoid relegation. United rate Anderson highly but such a fee could be a significant obstacle.”

Juventus have joined Aston Villa and Tottenham in the race for Manchester City’s goalkeeper James Trafford, the Daily Mail reports, with the 23-year-old facing an uncertain summer given he has played deputy to Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer.

Trafford helped City secure the Carabao Cup last month, but he has been vocal about his disappointment of joining the club last summer – only for Pep Guardiola’s side to then sign Donnarumma as their first choice.

The Mail adds: ”Juventus would represent an intriguing option for Trafford, who recently admitted to having not known that City were moving forward with signing Donnarumma weeks after his arrival.

”The Italian giants, fourth in Serie A, are looking for a new goalkeeper ahead of next season and have been determining the feasibility of a move for Trafford in recent weeks.”

Questions are being asked over Eddie Howe’s future at Newcastle United, The i Paper reports, despite the ”unofficial line” being that his position will be reviewed at the end of the season.

The Newcastle boss is under pressure with the club 14th in the table with four games to go.

”The i Paper was told recently that Newcastle ”simply don’t have enough information” to make a definitive call right now. Hopkinson’s recent remarks at an accounts briefing raised eyebrows but, all told, were an accurate reflection of his position,” The i Paper adds.

”Howe retains plenty of support at St James’ Park but questions are being asked – and past achievements are ”no free pass” for the current underachievement. A board meeting in two weeks, with PIF governor and Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, may quicken things but no one really knows. In short: this is a moment of genuine peril for Howe, and suddenly no one is talking in absolutes about him being in charge in August.

”But it is also a moment of real danger for Newcastle, too. Slipping out of European contention – barring an unexpected shift in momentum at Arsenal next weekend – will be financially costly but not nearly as damaging as letting the season drift into toxicity.”
