Oliver Glasner: Crystal Palace boss insists club’s board back him despite 'unhelpful' interviews – ‘I've had 100% assurance’

Crystal Palace made it through to the last 16 of the UEFA Conference League, beating Zrinjski 3-1 on aggregate. Oliver Glasner insisted he has the full backing of Crystal Palace's board for the rest of the season after his team made it through to the last 16 of the UEFA Conference League.

Palace beat Zrinjski 2-0 on Thursday night, for a 3-1 aggregate win, and their fans can still dream of going all the way and adding to their FA Cup success of last season.

Glasner also said that he may have given some interviews which were "not really helpful" in a season which has at times been frustrating.

"I've had 100% assurance [of staying on]," Glasner told TNT Sports. "For me it's always number one is the players, the players believing in me and the staff - and that's the most important thing, otherwise you can pack your suitcase and go home.

"They have a great togetherness in the group, the staff and it's the same with the chairman and sporting director.

"They are sometimes wondering - it's the second-best Premier League season ever. The best was last year, so maybe the best two in Palace's history, playing European football for the first time, and there is so much noise so sometimes we really don't understand it.

"Maybe I gave some interviews which were not really helpful, I have to admit, but I always say what I am feeling and sometimes it's positive, sometimes it's not so positive.

"That's Oliver Glasner, and in the end we are in a very good position in the league and Conference League and now it's up to us with our fans to make a really good season of it."

Among Glasner's many newsworthy interviews this season came a dramatic outburst last month, when he said the squad was being "abandoned" as Marc Guehi left Palace to join Manchester City.

Palace do still have plenty to play for this season, and will now await Friday's UEFA Conference League draw, which is live on TNT Sports and discovery+, to find out whether they face AEK Larnaca or Mainz.

On Thursday's win over Zrinjski, Glasner added: "Today was a very clinical win. We took our lessons from the first game and then waited for our moments, and then at the end decided the game.

"It means a lot. We didn't have easy weeks and therefore now having two back-to-back wins at Selhurst Park.

"The games where everyone is expecting a win are often the most difficult ones. Playing Wolves at home, everyone was expecting a win and we did it in the final minutes, and today the same.

"I think now we can work on our consistency, integrating new players and having good impact. I think we are on track.

"In three days we go to Old Trafford. We don't just go there for a holiday to Manchester but hopefully to win."
