Nations League: France held by Israel as Kylian Mbappe misses match, Erling Haaland scores in Norway win in Slovenia

Didier Deschamps may be under increasing scrutiny as France were unable to score in a 0-0 draw against Israel on Thursday night in the Nations League, with Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe axed from the team. Elsewhere, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland scored as Norway beat Slovenia 4-1 away, and Ireland grabbed a home win against Finland.

France were held to a disappointing 0-0 Nations League draw against Israel, Ireland beat Finland, and Erling Haaland scored as Norway beat Slovenia.
Sandro Tonali scored for Italy on 11 minutes as the away side went ahead against home side Belgium in Group A2, with his goal enough to earn a 1-0 win.
The Newcastle midfielder missed most of last season due to a ban arising from betting offences, but has restarted his club career, and the goal is his first for the national team, six years after his debut with The Azzurri.
In the same group, France and Israel played out a 0-0 draw as Kylian Mbappe was missing for Didier Deschamps’ side. Randal Kolo Muani started up front for the home side, but France were unable to find a way through the away side’s defence.
Pressure could increase on Deschamps after recent criticism, and speculation that former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is keen on stepping into the role.
Italy now top the group on 13 points, three clear of France. Belgium are third on four, with Israel bottom with the sole point won in France.
In Group B2, Brighton striker Evan Ferguson put Ireland 1-0 up against Finland just before half-time, and they held onto their lead to finish the game as winners.
In the same group, Ollie Watkins gave England a seventh-minute lead against Greece in Athens, before a second-half own goal from Odysseas Vlachodimos and a late effort from Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones earned Lee Carsley's men a 3-0 victory.
England top the group, level on 12 points with Greece but with a better goal difference. Ireland sit third on six points, and Finland are bottom with zero points.
Armenia suffered a disappointing defeat at home to the Faroe Islands, as a penalty in the 33rd minute from Viljormur Davidsen won it for the visitors in Group C4.
In a later game in the group, hosts North Macedonia and Latvia finished the first half at 0-0, and a 57th-minute strike from Nikola Serafimov earned three points for the home side.

North Macedonia stay top of their group on 13 points, while Faroe Islands are in second with six. Armenia are third on four points, above Latvia by virtue of a superior goal difference.
In Group B3 Christoph Baumgartner opened the scoring after 15 minutes for Austria against Kazakhstan, before Aleksandr Marochkin was sent off on 23 minutes. Michael Gergoritsch made it two almost immediately afterwards.
In the same group, Antonio Nusa put Norway ahead against Slovenia, only for in-demand striker Benjamin Sesko to level from the spot on 21 minutes. Manchester City striker Erling Haaland then struck just before the end of the first half to put Norway back in front. Nusa added a second just before the hour mark, with Jens Petter Hauge scoring a late fourth to round off the victory.
Kazakhstan are bottom of the table with one point, and Slovenia are third with seven. Norway and Austria are both tied on 10, but Austria have the better goal difference.
