Harry Kane has admitted that he does not know how long he will keep playing for England but he is doing everything he can to have a long and successful career. Kane also said that Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo is someone who inspires him. This came after Ronaldo scored the 901st goal of his career during the international break in Portugal's win over Scotland.

England captain Harry Kane has said that watching Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his 901st goal at age 39 “inspires me”.

Kane, 31, was speaking at a press conference ahead of the UEFA Nations League game against Finland at Wembley on Tuesday when he will make his 100th appearance for his country.

Asked about his plans for the future when it comes to international football, Kane pointed to Ronaldo as a source of inspiration.

"I feel in really good shape, both physically and mentally, at a peak in my career," Kane said.

The Bayern Munich man continued: "Watching other players, [Cristiano] Ronaldo scoring his 901st goal, seeing him compete at 39 years old inspires me to play for as long as possible.

"I love this game, I love representing England - more than anything and I don’t want it to end any time soon.

"For me, personally, now it’s about continuing to improve and being consistent both in an England shirt and at club level.

"I’m hungry for more. I’m determined to keep pushing the boundaries.

"It depends on circumstances and managers and different systems. As a player I have always been someone who can play high or drop deep. I feel I have the all-around game to be effective in both areas.

"For me personally it is about being better, with Bayern and the new coach now there's a lot of high-intensity pressing and a lot of high pressure situations without the ball especially and that is helping me improve. It is similar here with England too.”

Kane admitted that although he is someone who always tries to distance himself from individual milestones, he is proud to reach 100 caps.

"It is really special," Kane said. "I always say it is sometimes hard to sink in when you are playing. I spoke previously about that with the goalscoring record, but this one I am extremely proud of.

"It is something I am really excited for, my family will be there to enjoy the moment as well and it is a moment I am sure when I am retired I will look back on."

Interim manager Lee Carsley said that despite only working with Kane for a short period, he can see how motivated the striker is.

"I've only worked with him for around seven days, but straight away you can see how motivated he is, how committed he is, how good an example he is for the other players, every session he is first out," Carsley said.

"You could tell straight away how motivated he is to win a major tournament, which is brilliant for whoever comes in."

Returning the compliment, Kane was effusive in his praise of the energy that Carsley has brought to the job.

"It has been really good," Kane said. "A new energy into the place especially after the disappointing end to the summer.

"It has been great to work with the boss so far. He's brought his ideas, how he wants us to play. I think the lads have enjoyed it.

"We've got a good mixture of youth and experience in the team. You're seeing the excited faces of some of the new players."

Carsley says FA will pick the best person for the job

Carsley insists he is focused on the task at hand and emphasised his belief that the FA will choose the best person for the job.

"I try not to think about myself too much," he said.

"The best person should get the job.

"I know my role for the next three camps and I am comfortable with that."

Carsley has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal for the match with Finland on Tuesday.

However, he insists there will not be wholesale changes ahead of the clash at Wembley.

"If you make 11 changes it maybe sends out the wrong signal," Carsley added.

"The good thing about this group is they are highly motivated to do well.

"There will be two or three changes, but not wholesale changes.

"We have to make sure we protect the players as well."
