David Beckham was presented with his England legacy cap by current captain Harry Kane during an emotional visit to Inter Miami's training complex, where Thomas Tuchel's squad put the finishing touches to their preparations ahead of their FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final victory over Norway.

England travelled to Florida from their Kansas City base following a dramatic 3-2 last-16 win over Mexico, using the state-of-the-art facilities of Beckham's MLS club, Inter Miami, for their final training session before Saturday's 2-1 triumph.

The occasion proved to be more than a routine training stop in Fort Lauderdale.

Beckham, who earned 115 England caps across 13 years and five major tournaments, was surprised with his official legacy cap, presented by Kane in front of the squad.

The presentation carried added significance as Kane, who surpassed Beckham's England appearance tally during this World Cup, paid tribute to one of the nation's most influential captains, whose connection with the national team remains as strong as ever.

"You were a big role model for me, a big inspiration," the current captain said to the man who skippered his country on 59 occasions.

"Every time you wore the England shirt, you showed desire, you showed passion, you showed what it's like to lead your country.

"You're one of England's all-time greats, so it's an honour for me to present this to you."

The moment also reflected the shared journey of two England captains. Both grew up in Chingford, attended Chingford Foundation School and began their footballing careers with Ridgeway Rovers before going on to wear the captain's armband for their country.

For a player whose passion for England defined a generation, receiving his legacy cap was a fitting recognition.

More importantly, it served as a symbolic passing of the torch - from one iconic captain to another - as England continue their pursuit of World Cup glory.

For Beckham, whose visible emotions were on display as he watched Jude Bellingham inspire the nerve-wrenching comeback against Norway, another week in the spotlight awaits.

Permanently etched into Argentina-England football folklore because of his infamous red card at the 1998 World Cup and his subsequent redemption four years later, Beckham's history with The Albiceleste will be retold in the days ahead.

Clearly moved by the presentation, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder turned the focus back onto the current squad.

"I know you've probably heard it all before, but you're making everyone proud with everything that you're doing, not just on the field but off the field," said Beckham, who joined supporters in singing Oasis' Wonderwall alongside his son, Romeo, in the stands on Saturday.

"I know you feel it because you all hear everything about what is going on at home, and you're making everyone proud, so continue it.

"You've got a leader here in Harry Kane who leads by example, on and off the field, but every one of you is a leader, and that's been apparent in this World Cup."
