Grand Prix Great Britain: Fabio Quartararo secures hat-trick pole at Silverstone, Marc Marquez on second row

Qualifying at Grand Prix Great Britain was topped by Monster Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo on Saturday afternoon, with Ducati Lenovo's Marc Marquez in fourth spot, and Alex Marquez in second spot. Francesco Bagnaia claimed third place in difficult conditions ahead of Saturday afternoon's Sprint, which takes place at 4pm, live on TNT Sports and disovery+.

Fabio Quartararo grabbed pole position on Saturday for the weekend’s racing at Grand Prix Great Britain.

The Frenchman has been in superb qualifying form of late, with his time of 1:57.233 not just a new track record on two wheels, but also his third pole position in a row.

Quartararo clinched pole on his last lap, and there were a few nerves as current world championship leader Marc Marquez looked set to challenge on his own final runout.

However, the Ducati Lenovo rider failed to negotiate Turn 9 smoothly and a wobble led to him abandoning his last effort.1§§1§

Marquez had to settle for fourth spot, the first time of the season that he had not qualified on the front row.

His brother, Alex, was second quickest as he looked to whittle away the lead at the top of the standings, and his Ducati Lenovo team-mate, two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia, came in third place.

Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura suffered a blow to his impressive debut season when he was unable to take part in the day’s racing after an injury from a crash on Friday meant he was ruled unfit.

He has returned to Barcelona, Spain, for further tests.

Riding was made difficult for the competitors due to windy conditions, with a sprinkling of rain causing some minor crashes in FP2 earlier in the day.
