MotoGP 2025: Marc Marquez accepts Marco Bezzecchi contact was 'not on purpose' as champion suffers injury at Grand Prix Indonesia

Marc Marquez said he was "sad" to have suffered an injury at Grand Prix Indonesia on Sunday, with suggestions that there is a break in his right collarbone. The Ducati Lenovo rider and 2025 MotoGP world champion will travel to Madrid later for further tests. He acknowledged that the contact with Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi was not on purpose, and accepted that it was part of the sport.

Marc Marquez said he was "sad" to suffer an injury at Grand Prix Indonesia but stressed Marco Bezzecchi did not make contact "on purpose".
The Aprilia rider touched Ducati Lenovo's Marquez at Turn 7 in the opening lap of the race on Sunday, and both riders slid into the gravel.
Bezzecchi had been attempting to make a bold move on the inside after his second poor start of the weekend, though he recovered on Saturday to ultimately win the Sprint.
Marquez immediately appeared to be in pain and clutched his right arm, and tried to shake his shoulder.
His team later suggested that there was "evidence of a break" in the world champion’s right collarbone, and TNT Sports pundit Neil Hodgson said that he might have been fortunate to avoid a rotator cuff injury, which could be much more serious.
He will fly to Madrid on Sunday for further tests.

Speaking after his crash, he said that Bezzecchi had apologised to him, but he accepted that events such as those were part of the sport.
"So, not the best way to celebrate the championship," Marquez said.
"Looks like this Mandalika GP has been a bit difficult, but today I started to feel better and better, especially in the warm-up.
"We did a big step and the race I cannot say [what was possible] because [I only did] five, six corners.
"It’s true that I’m sad because I have some injury in my right collarbone. But from a race incident.
"In the end, Marco Bezzecchi already came to me and said sorry.
"This happens. It’s something that sometimes I will do, sometimes somebody else will do, but it was not on purpose.
"So, Marco accepts it was his fault.
"Let’s see if we can fly as soon as possible to Madrid and try to understand with the doctors exactly what I have and try to come back as soon as possible, but inside the limits of the recovery."
Ducati Lenovo suffered a dreadful weekend overall. There had been high hopes for Francesco Bagnaia after his impressive double victory in Japan in the previous round. However, the two-time world champion also crashed out on Saturday.
The race was won by BK8 Gresini rider Fermin Aldeguer, who became the second-youngest rookie to win a MotoGP race, a record currently held by Marquez.
