MotoGP 2025: Which riders have changed teams ahead of this season? What team are Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin with?

The MotoGP silly season produced a lot of significant grid-shuffling, with some high-profile moves, such as Marc Marquez moving to join the championship-winning Francesco Bagnaia at the Ducati factory team, and current world champion Jorge Martin moving to Aprilia. Three new rookies are also joining the main stage of motorcycle racing, looking to impress as they make their debuts in 2025.

There's been a lot of movement in the MotoGP line-up ahead of the 2025 season, with changes up and down the grid - old faces retiring, current drivers opting for different paths, and new names making their first appearances at the pinnacle of the sport.

Some of these moves could have championship-defining effects and others will offer fans chances to get to potentially find their new favourite drivers.

Marc Marquez moves to Ducati

In probably the biggest move of the silly season, eight-time world champion Marc Marquez moves to the Ducati factory team after just one year with Gresini.

The 2024 season saw him break a two-season winless streak having moved from Repsol Honda after ten years, taking three race victories and finishing third in the standings.

He teams up with the 2022 and 2023 world champion Francesco Bagnaia in what is certain to be a very strong and competitive pairing.

Jorge Martin moves to Aprilia

Current number ‘1’ Jorge Martin has made the move to Aprilia Racing after a championship-winning campaign in 2024 with Prima Pramac.

Despite impressing with his consistency and world-champion form in 2024, the newly-crowned champion was not picked up by the Ducati factory team for 2025, favouring Marquez for the ride.

Instead, the Spanish rider has chosen to move to Aprilia, replacing the retiring Aleix Espargaro as he seeks a second consecutive title.

Marco Bezzecchi moves to Aprilia

Marco Bezzecchi moves from Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing to Aprilia, teaming up with reigning champion Martin as he looks to challenge for the 2025 title.

Bezzecchi replaces the KTM Tech3-bound Maverick Vinales, as he will hope to improve on a 12th-placed finish in 2024.

Pedro Acosta moves to KTM

Pedro Acosta impressed many as he debuted in MotoGP in 2024 with GasGas Tech3, and now makes the move up to Red Bull KTM Factory Racing for 2025.

At only 20 years old, some rookie errors meant he missed the chance to stand on the top step in his first season, but he still managed an impressive sixth in the standings with multiple podium finishes.

Alongside the experienced South African rider Brad Binder, Acosta could be a favourite for the title in years to come.

Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales move to KTM Tech3

Vinales will line up alongside Enea Bastianini as the Italian rider departs Ducati for Red Bull KTM Tech 3.

Off the back of a fourth-placed 2024 championship campaign with two race wins - including a home win at Emilia Romagna - Bastianini makes way for Marquez at the Ducati factory team.

He replaces the outgoing Acosta and Augusto Fernandez along with Vinales, who placed seventh last season.

Franco Morbidelli moves to VR46

Franco Morbidelli, who partnered champion Martin in 2024, leaves Prima Pramac for the Valentino Rossi-owned Pertamina Enduro VR46, replacing the Aprilia-bound Bezzecchi.

Morbidelli has struggled to replicate his second-placed finish with Yamaha in the 2020 championship, most recently finishing ninth in 2024 on a one-year stint with Pramac.

Pramac switches to Yamaha bikes, signing Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller

Pramac has transitioned from Ducati bikes to Yamaha on a seven-year deal, and is taking on an all-new lineup for 2025 as Morbidelli and champion Martin continue their MotoGP campaigns elsewhere.

Aussie Jack Miller departs KTM and Miguel Oliveira leaves Trackhouse to join Pramac, Miller returning to the team he rode for between 2018 and 2020.

Oliveira will hope to improve on his uneventful two-year stint with Aprilia satellite teams as he moves to the outfit that saw Martín take the championship in 2024.

Ai Ogura steps up to Trackhouse

The 2024 Moto2 champion makes the step up to the main stage of bike racing as he joins Trackhouse alongside current rider Raul Fernandez.

After four seasons in the Moto2 series, he moves up to MotoGP, taking over from the retiring Takaaki Nakagami as the only Japanese rider on the grid.

Fermin Aldeguer steps up to Gresini

The 19-year-old Fermin Aldeguer has a lot of (Antonelli-esque) excitement surrounding his move into the premier series, stepping up to Gresini in place of the Ducati-bound Marquez.

Off the back of a fifth-placed finish in Moto2 in 2024 and a third-placed finish in 2023, the young talent was too good to let slip, Gresini signing him in early 2024.

He will line up alongside the younger Marquez brother, Alex, at the Ducati satellite team.

Somkiat Chantra steps up to LCR Honda

Somkiat Chantra moves up from Moto2 to MotoGP with LCR, making history as the series’ first and only ever Thai rider.

His most successful Moto2 season came in 2023, with a sixth-placed championship finish, a victory in Japan, and a podium in his home country.

He replaces the retiring Nakagami and will team up with French rider Johann Zarco for 2025.
