Harlequins boss Danny Wilson confirms prop Joe Marler will miss start of Premiership season with broken foot

Joe Marler will miss the start of the 2024-25 Gallagher Premiership season with a broken foot, Harlequins boss Danny Wilson confirmed. The Quins coach revealed it will be "a 12-14 week injury", meaning England international Marler's return in time for the Autumn Nations Series in October hangs in the balance. He picked up the injury in a defeat to New Zealand in July.

Harlequins prop Joe Marler will miss the start of his side's 2024-25 Gallagher Premiership campaign with a broken foot, which he sustained during England's summer tour.
Quins held an open training session on Wednesday, during which Marler was still wearing a protective boot on his left foot.
The England international was forced off after just 17 minutes during England's 16-15 defeat to New Zealand in July, and Quins boss Danny Wilson has revealed it will be a "12-14 week injury".
Marler will miss the club's Premiership curtain-raiser against Sale Sharks on September 29.
"It's going to be a 12-14 week injury," Wilson said. "It's not a 12-weeker where he can come back in nine. It's an injury that will take that amount of time.
"That at the moment hasn't changed, but I need to get to the bottom of it from today's assessment because he's had a bit more assessment today."
Due to Marler's injury, Quins were proactive in the market with the acquisition of Wyn Jones as front-row cover.
"We looked at our squad and knew that we were going into three pre-season matches and the first few league matches without Joe," Wilson said.
"Therefore, our cupboard was a little bit bare in that position. It was the right decision for us to sign Wyn for two reasons.
"There's the long term of having that little bit more cover this season. Also, Wyn is going to bring a wealth of experience."

Marler's recovery time will mean a late call on his participation in England's Autumn Nations Series, with Steve Borthwick set to name his squad in October.
England face New Zealand on November 2, by which time Marler is set to have recovered from his foot injury.
