Joe Marler: Former England prop confirms rugby retirement after final Harlequins appearance on Friday against Bristol

Former England prop Joe Marler retired from international duty earlier in the month, and has now confirmed that he is also calling time on his club career. Marler's retirement was announced on Wednesday by Harlequins, who said that his last appearance for the club would come on Friday, in the Gallagher Premiership rugby match against Bristol Bears at The Stoop.

Former England prop Joe Marler has confirmed that he will retire from all forms of rugby after playing his final game for Harlequins this Friday.

The Gallagher Premiership rugby match comes against Bristol Bears at The Stoop.

The 34-year-old recently confirmed he was stepping back from international rugby after leaving a training squad for personal reasons, before announcing his retirement.

He earned 95 caps, winning three Six Nations in the process. Marler has spent his whole club career at Harlequins, making 204 appearances so far, with his last bow making it 205.

In his time at the club, he won two Premiership titles and the European Challenge Cup.

"The time has come to finally jump off the rollercoaster and walk away from this beautifully brutal game. On Friday night I'll play my last-ever match for Quins. After all these happy years, it's over," Marler wrote in a statement.

"I feel lucky to have pulled on the jersey worn by so many idols of mine, and so many better players.

"That's an incredible thing to me. I got to stand alongside so many great players and people that have made this club so special."

Marler has previously announced an international retirement, the first coming in 2018, before returning for the 2019 World Cup.

His last international appearance came for England against South Africa in last year’s World Cup in France.

In recent years, Marler has established himself as a figure in the media, with his own podcast and other appearances.
