Henry Arundell likened to South Africa great Bryan Habana after Bath's Gallagher PREM Rugby comeback victory over Saracens

Henry Arundell's late try clinched a statement victory for Bath away at Saracens, sending the visitors to the top of the Prem table. The reigning champions mounted an impressive comeback, scoring 19 unanswered points to overturn the deficit and secure a win that lifts them three points clear after six rounds, while Saracens slip to sixth. Johann van Graan says Arundell reminds him of Bryan Habana.

Henry Arundell's late try secured a Bath win over Saracens and moved them top of the Gallagher PREM on Sunday, drawing comparisons with Bryan Habana.

The reigning champions ran in 19 unanswered points to overturn an interval deficit and claim a victory that moves them three points clear after six rounds, while consigning Saracens to sixth place.

Two tries from Max Malins, split by a Juan Martin Gonzalez score, handed the hosts a five-point advantage at half-time, with Arundell and Thomas du Toit keeping Bath in touch.

Second-half tries from Will Butt and Arthur Green then put the visitors ahead for the first time, before Gonzalez's second set up a tense finale at 29-29.

But Arundell had the final say, crossing with fewer than four minutes remaining to crown an individual performance that could make England head coach Steve Borthwick take notice.

TNT Sports' David Flatman jokingly called for there to be a race between all the PREM's fastest athletes, with the former Saracens and Bath prop believing Arundell would give anyone a run for their money.

Bath head coach Johann van Graan drew a favourable comparison between his lightning-quick winger and a 2007 Rugby World Cup winner renowned for his devastating finishes.

"He's by far the quickest in the squad," Van Graan told TNT Sports. "I'm going to liken him to one player - Bryan Habana. In 2005, Bryan had just joined us at the Bulls. He scored a try against the Brumbies in Canberra.

"That was the first time I saw him and thought, 'wow, this guy's got speed'. A few years ago, I saw Henry [Arundell], but in the pre-season, when he got the ball, he had something a lot better than I thought.

"He's one of the quickest players in world rugby, and he wants to get better. He's certainly going to improve a lot. I think if you look at the main things for a winger, he always finishes; he can finish. He's got out-and-out speed.

"He worked on his defence, both at England and at Bath, which you saw from his intercept try, which was a big moment in the game. We spoke about his aerial work and his contact skills.

"That's a sign of a player who wants to improve. A player that went away, came back, and he's hungry to play for us, and he's hungry to play for this country."

The 23-year-old flyer Arundell won his personal duel with Noah Caluori – another England hopeful and his direct opponent – and may give Borthwick plenty to consider after an autumn campaign in which he featured only fleetingly against Fiji.

Flatman added: "He was more than just pace tonight. He did really well aerially up against Caluori.

"It wasn't just a case of getting up there and fighting for the ball. He made collisions in the air, legal ones. He got in front of Caluori.

"He was really, really, he looked really well prepared. Really high class in the air, and defensively, he looked great. He was willing to collide - and he's more than just quick."

Arundell's first score gave his side a foothold in the game, coming after he picked off Ivan van Zyl's pass near his own 22 to race away to Saracens' try line, and the third quarter of the match was dominated by Bath.

Bayliss: We prefer being the hunted

An injury to Tom Willis proved an important footnote as Saracens ran out of resources off the bench to compete with their opponents' superior depth - and player-of-the-match Josh Bayliss hailed the patience of his team-mates in sticking to the process as the visitors turned the screw.

"With this one-off Premiership match before we turn to Europe, everyone wanted to finish this block off on a high," Bayliss told TNT Sports. "It was a really tough game - they put us under a lot of pressure, and we're just really happy to come away with a win.

"What this team is so brilliant at, under Ben's [Spencer] leadership, is that we never panic. We always stick to how we want to play with our structure. Even if we go 14-0 down or 14-0 up, we try to stick to our basics and our plan, as we trust it'll help us pull through it, as it did today.

"For us, it was about looking at ways to get our ball-carriers on the ball. Sarries did well in the first half to stifle our better ball-carriers, but when we got quick ball, we got on top, and the guys off the bench gave us some real impetus as well.

"The guys in our pack, all they need is front-foot ball to get us going forward. I've been at Bath for 10 years, and it's not always been that way [that we're the hunted]. We'd much rather it this way than the other way around, but we're really enjoying our rugby at the moment."
