Jimmy White falls at first hurdle in Wuhan Open qualifying, Phil O'Kane claims first win since earning tour card

There was mixed news for players at different stages of their careers in Wuhan Open qualifying, as Jimmy White lost to Jiang Jun but Phil O’Kane secured victory over Chatchapong Nasa.

White is in the final lap of his career and likely to retire at the end of the 2026/27 season.
His bid to make the final stages of the Wuhan Open in August ended at the first hurdle, as he slipped to a 5-3 defeat at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester.
The six-time World Championship finalist was competitive throughout, as he opened with a run of 65 to take the first frame.
White won the two frames either side of interval to lead 3-2, but his opponent reeled off three on the spin - wrapping up the match with a century in frame eight despite appearing to struggle with a problem with his arm.
O’Kane is starting out on his professional journey at the age of 33 after securing his first tour card at Q School.
He opened his professional career with a 6-1 defeat to Wang Yuhang in China Open qualifying, but a week on he had a win to his name after overcoming Chatchapong Nasa 5-3.
Chatchapong raced into a 3-0 lead, but O’Kane steeled himself and a couple of breaks of 75 took him into round two of qualifying.

Teenager Liam Davies battled to a 5-3 win over fellow youngster Liam Pullen, while Ukraine's Michael Larkov made a break of 85 in a 5-3 win over Antoni Kowalski.
Reanne Evans will be in action against Artemijs Zizins on Tuesday, while 15-year-old Michał Szubarczyk will face off against Duane Jones.
Qualifying for the Wuhan Open runs until Thursday.
