Jack Draper pulls out of Queen’s with injury as Wimbledon preparation takes a hit

Jack Draper has confirmed that he is not going to play Queen’s next week but will aim to participate in Eastbourne as injuries continue to disrupt his Wimbledon preparations.

The British star has been beset by injuries over the past couple of years and did not play in the recent French Open, nor the first Grand Slam of the year in Australia.
An arm injury cut his season short after the US Open last year and a knee problem cost him much of the clay court season. Draper played only one match in Barcelona and retired in the third set against Tomas Etcheverry.
He was aiming to play Queen’s next week to try and gain some match time before Wimbledon, but instead will play Eastbourne the week after, which finishes on the eve of the SW19 Grand Slam.
With Andy Murray as part of his coaching set up, Draper had hoped for more grass-court matches as he attempts to rebuild his season.
”Recovery is going in the right direction, but I'm going to give myself one more week and aim to return at Eastbourne," Draper told Sky Sports.
"Very hard to miss one of my favourite events of the year."
Draper has been ranked as high as world No. 4, but the troublesome arm injury saw him withdraw before his second round match in New York last year, and he did not return to the tour until February.
He managed to play the Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami and showed glimpses of his best form in reaching the quarter-finals of the former before a knee injury once again sent him onto the sidelines.
Once he called time on the clay portion of the season after just one match, Draper changed his focus to grass and linked up with Murray in a blockbuster pairing that was sure to garner plenty of attention as Draper’s home Grand Slam loomed.
But fans will have to wait a little longer to see what Murray has added to Draper’s game.
Queen’s looks set to boast Alex de Minaur as top seed next week, with French Open breakout stars Jakub Mensik and Rafael Jodar also in the field, along with Tommy Paul and Holger Rune - who is returning from an injury of his own.
Instead, Draper will now hope to test himself against the likes of Taylor Fritz and Joao Fonseca on the south coast.

Draper has never been beyond the second round at his home Slam, losing to Marin Cilic last year and compatriot Cam Norrie the season before.
He is currently ranked No. 112 in the world after his injury lay-off.
