Laver Cup 2025: 'Fierce competitor' Tim Henman appointed as vice captain of Team Europe for San Francisco event

The teams for the 2025 Laver Cup in San Francisco are starting to take shape and Team Europe have confirmed that former British No. 1 Tim Henman will be Yannick Noah's vice captain at the event. Henman says it is a "great honour" as he replaces Thomas Enqvist in the role. Team Europe will be looking to defend their title after winning last year's Laver Cup in Berlin.

Tim Henman has been appointed as Team Europe vice captain for the 2025 Laver Cup.
Former British No. 1 and TNT Sports expert Henman will join new captain Yannick Noah as Team Europe aim to retain the Laver Cup in San Francisco in September.
Henman will replace Thomas Enqvist, who was Team Europe vice captain since the inaugural Laver Cup in 2017.
"I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Team Europe as vice captain," said Henman.
"Having watched the Laver Cup as a pundit and seeing first hand the intensity, the quality of tennis and the passion and interaction between the players on the bench, I know how special this event is.
"Being invited by Yannick to be part of the Laver Cup is a great honour and I’m really looking forward to working alongside him and the team to continue Europe’s winning tradition."
Team Europe won a thrilling Laver Cup in Berlin last year to avoid a third straight defeat.

World No. 2 Alexander Zverev and world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz have been confirmed to play for Team Europe in San Francisco, while world No. 4 Taylor Fritz and world No. 14 Ben Shelton will represent Team World, who will be captained for the first time by Andre Agassi.
Agassi and Noah are replacing former captains John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg.
Speaking about Henman’s appointment, Noah said: "Tim brings with him a wealth of experience and passion for the game, and his insights will be invaluable to our team.

"He has always been a fierce competitor and a great leader on and off the court. I’m delighted to have him by my side as we aim to defend our title in San Francisco this September."
The 2025 Laver Cup will be the first held in the USA since the 2021 edition in Boston.
Henman says Alcaraz and Zverev are "two phenomenal players" to build the team around.
"They play extremely well indoors. They’ve got huge games. It’s really important to make sure that they play the way they want to play, the way that they’re capable of playing," he added.

"I think it’s really important to try and understand the individual. I’ll be looking at the way that players practice, the way they prepare and then also the way they play on court.
"When you talk about the match up against a very strong Team World, it’s going to be small margins. It’s about getting the absolute very best out of each individual player. "
