Emma Raducanu claimed victory in the first match of her new partnership with former coach of Rafael Nadal, Francisco Roig. The British No.1 triumphed in straight sets to reach the last 32 of the Cincinnati Open, beating Ola Danilovic 6-3 6-2 in an hour and 20 minutes. The 22-year-old is hoping to continue her promising form of late at this week's tournament ahead of the US Open later this month.

Emma Raducanu started her latest coaching partnership with a straight-sets victory over Olga Danilovic to reach the last 32 of the Cincinnati Open.

The British No. 1 is now working with Rafael Nadal's former coach, Francisco Roig, after teaming up with Mark Petchey on a casual basis for the last two major tournaments.

In her first match under the Spaniard on Saturday, Raducanu cruised to a 6-3 6-2 victory in an hour and 20 minutes.

Things did not go according to plan in the first game, however, with the world No. 39 being broken to love.

But after four breaks of serve between the pair in the first four games, Raducanu broke once more to make it 5-3 before serving out the opening set.

The Brit was able to make the first break of serve in the second set with the scores at 2-2, before winning the next three games to seal victory.

It continues Raducanu’s promising form during the North American hard-court swing ahead of the US Open later this month, having now won six of eight matches.

The 22-year-old Brit will now face the winner of the match between world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova.

Raducanu faced both players at Wimbledon last month, defeating Vondrousova in one of the most impressive victories of her career, before losing out to Sabalenka in a tightly fought third-round contest.
