After years of doubt, boxing will feature at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The decision was approved at the International Olympic Committee Session held on Thursday. The decision comes after the IOC executive board recommended its return to the programme on Monday. IOC President Thomas Bach believes fans can now look ahead to an exciting tournament in Los Angeles.

Boxing will feature on the programme at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games following approval at Thursday's International Olympic Committee Session.
The sport's Olympic future was cast into doubt in February 2022 after it was left off the initial programme for Los Angeles 2028 due to concerns surrounding its governance.
Boxing events at Paris 2024 were then run by the IOC after they suspended the International Boxing Association's world governing body status in June 2023.
However, the sport was given a lifeline last month when World Boxing was provisionally recognised as its governing body, which resulted in the IOC executive board recommending its return to the programme.
Fears that boxing may lose its Olympic status can be put to bed for now following Thursday's approval.
"I thank you for the approval of having boxing back," said IOC President Thomas Bach.

"We can look forward to a great boxing tournament."
Boxing was first included on the Olympic schedule in 1904 and has been held at every event since bar Stockholm 1912.
World Boxing is made up of 88 national federations from around the world and was formed in 2023.
Last year, iconic former middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin was named as the man leading World Boxing's Olympic commission.
Only fighters representing national federations who are members of World Boxing will be allowed to compete at Los Angeles 2028, according to the IOC.
