Giro d'Italia 2026: Confirmed riders, teams, start list for first Grand Tour of season as Jonas Vingegaard competition revealed

The first Grand Tour of the cycling season is here, with the Giro d’Italia starting on Friday, May 8. There will be 23 teams competing at the Giro and all the action from every stage will be live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.

Simon Yates won the Giro a year ago with a thrilling solo attack on the penultimate stage.

But the Brit will not be back to defend his title after announcing his retirement from cycling.

There will still be a Yates at the race, however, as Simon's brother Adam (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) is set to compete, and indeed lead his team in Italy.

Two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) is likely to start as the strong favourite as he bids to win the race for the first time.

Richard Carapaz (EF Education–EasyPost) will not race while he continues to recover from surgery to remove a perineal cyst, focusing instead on the Tour de France.
