UAE BOSS, MAURO GIANETTI: WE KNEW THE ROADS WOULD BE DANGEROUS
We were scared because we knew that the weather and the rain would make the roads very dangerous. And this happened. We have two riders , Jay Vine and Marc Soler, on the way to hospital. We just hope it's nothing too bad. Nothing is clear about their conditions for the moment. We're just waiting for information from the doctors. We don't know about Adam but it was impossible for him to be in the first group. It's very sad. We wish everyone from the other teams a speedy recovery.

ADAM YATES ROLLING IN OVER 12 MINUTES DOWN
And while his GC battle is done and dusted, at least he's able to continue, assuming later assessments don't find anything to prevent him starting tomorrow.

SILVA THE NEW MAGLIA ROSA
By four seconds from Florian Stork (Tudor Pro Cycling) and Egan Bernal (Net Company Ineos.) The top three have moved up a combined 376 places, as the top ten is completely transformed.
DID THE ESCAPEES THROW THAT AWAY?
Jonas Vingegaard definitely looked around and took his foot off the gas within sight of the line, but I can't imagine he'll be too upset about that.

SECOND FOR FLORIAN STORK
And the photo finish shows third has gone to Giulio Ciccone.

GUILLERMO THOMAS SILVA WINS STAGE 2!
Wow! It all came back together in the final 500m, and with the help of team-mate Christian Scaroni, the Uruguayan rose above the rest. He hit the front, carried the speed to the line and finished it off with the throw.

800M TO GO: VAN EETVELT ATTACKS
He can see the rest coming up fast.

15:49
FLAMME ROUGE: VAN EETVELT WAITS
He wants to sprint from behind, and force the other to lead it out. But Jan Christen is coming. Three become four. Have they thrown it away?
15:47
15:47
2KM TO GO: 19 SECONDS AS THE ROAD RAMPS UP
Vingegaard encourages the others to keep riding. Pellizzari throws off his gloves.
15:46
15:46
3KM TO GO: VAN EETVELT COMES THROUGH
He's well suited to a finish like this, but so is Vingegaard of course, and Pellizzari who won in Trentino is no slouch.
15:45
15:45
4KM TO GO: THE ROAD TO THE LINE IS FAR FROM SIMPLE
Up to 9% in places, with cobbles to make it even more treacherous.
15:44
15:44
5KM TO GO: ATTACKS OUT OF THE CHASE
Which only plays into the hands of the three leaders. The stage is going to one of them, I think.
15:43
15:43
8KM TO GO: TWENTY SECONDS TO THE CHASERS
Van Eetvelt in a great position, if he can hang on, with no obligation to contribute. They're squabbling among themselves behind. It's hard to organize a chase in these circumstances, someone has to take the bull by the horns.

11.7KM TO GO: VINGEGAARD ATTACKS!
He launches 700 meters from the top, just as the road ramps up. Who can hold his wheel?
