Thanks very much for following along as all of the nominees were announced for the upcoming Ballon d’Or awards.
The ceremony itself will be held on Monday 22 September at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, and a select group of experts from across the world will vote from the shortlists that we discovered today.

Scott McTominay left Manchester United a year ago. Now he’s a Serie A winner and a Ballon d’Or nominee.
The Scottish midfielder’s brilliance for Napoli has been recognised with a spot among the nominees.

Paris Saint-Germain’s extraordinary season saw a number of players excel, with many of them making this list. But did anyone truly outshine Ousmane Dembélé?

Chloe Kelly’s season looked to be fizzling out as she slipped down the pecking order at Manchester City early in the season.
But she pushed through a move to Arsenal at the turn of the year, and it’s been success all the way for her since, winning the Champions League with the Gunners, signing for them permanently, and then starring for England at the Women’s Euros.
And now she's a Ballon d'Or nominee!
14:05 - African stars are recognised
The NWSL has featured leading performances from African footballers in recent years as players from the continent begin to get greater opportunities in the wider club game.
The extraordinary Barbra Banda is nominated after winning the NWSL with Orlando Pride, while the league’s top-scorer, Temwa Chawinga of Kansas City Current, is also shortlisted.

England and Chelsea full-back Lucy Bronze is the first name to be announced.
She played the entirety of the Women’s Euros with a fractured leg. That alone is remarkable, even before we get to her glittering trophy haul from the season.

Here are the five clubs nominated for the men’s award.
Liverpool are in after storming to the Premier League title. Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup crown has sealed their spot in the top five. European champions Paris Saint-Germain are unsurprisingly on the shortlist. FC Barcelona’s league title and impressive European run sees them make the cut. And the list is completed by Botafogo of Brazil.

We have our five contenders for Club of the Year in the women’s game.
Arsenal are in thanks to their Champions League brilliance. Barcelona remain the gold standard in European football despite falling short in the UCL. Chelsea are relentless in domestic competition, winning the treble last season. Lyon can’t be stopped in French football and made it four titles on the spin this season. And Orlando Pride topped the standings in the NWSL before deservedly winning the Championship through the play-offs route.

Now we’re on to the club-specific awards, where five teams in the men’s game and five teams in the women’s game will be shortlisted.

We’ve got the final list of nominees for the men’s Cruyff Trophy. They are:

There are so many amazing stories from that group. Conte steering Napoli to the title; Enrique ending PSG's wait for a Champions League title (and in serious style); Flick turning Barcelona into arguably the most exciting team to watch in Europe; Maresca settling down the chaos at Chelsea and coaching them to titles in the Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup; and Slot winning the Premier League with Liverpool in his first year in charge. Stunning stuff all round.

We’re on to the next award, the Cruyff Trophy for the best coaches in the game. It's the coaches of women's teams up first.
Sarina Wiegman of England is going to take some beating in the women’s shortlist, but she’s got strong competition.
Sonia Bompastor made a phenomenal impact at Chelsea, picking up where Emma Hayes left off and guiding them to a domestic treble.
Arthur Elias has got Brazil’s national team ticking again, coaching them to the Copa America Femenina title.
Justine Madugu was head coach as Nigeria regained their Women’s AFCON title last month, and they did it the hard way, beating the other three highest-ranked African nations back-to-back through the knockouts – Zambia, South Africa and then hosts Morocco in the final.
And Renée Slegers enjoyed a massive first season in charge of Arsenal, taking over temporarily in October, getting the job permanently in January off the back of a strong start, and then coaching the Gunners to a remarkable UEFA Women’s Champions League title.

Spain and Barcelona creative midfielder Vicky Lopez is the fifth and final nominee.
She’s been a revelation this year, helping Barca to a league and cup domestic double before linking up with the full Spain squad at the Euros.
11:40 - Claudia Martinez Ovando
The fourth nominee is a really exciting talent from Paraguay – 17-year-old Claudia Martinez Ovando.
She was top scorer for Paraguay Under-17s as they won the South American Championship, and made an enormous impact for the full national team despite her tender age, scoring in all four group games at the Copa America Femenina, starting with a hat-trick against Bolivia and following it up with goals against Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela.
11:40 - Wieke Kaptein
Dutch midfielder Wieke Kaptein is next up. The teenager joined Chelsea back in 2023 before going out on loan, but she was back at the Blues last season and made an immediate impact, showing immense quality to help them to a domestic treble.

Next up for the Women’s U21 award is Colombian star Linda Caicedo, who has been at the top of the game for so long that it’s easy to forget that she’s still just 20 years old.
The forward was outstanding for Real Madrid last season.

England’s striker sensation Michelle Agyemang is the first nominee of the day, named on the shortlist for the Women’s Kopa Trophy.
The Arsenal forward was superb on loan at Brighton in the WSL last season and made an enormous impact on England’s triumphant campaign at the Women’s Euros.

10:20 - When did UEFA join the party?
The Ballon d’Or hasn’t always been an official UEFA award. In fact, the agreement between L’Equipe and the European governing body to pair up only came about a couple of years ago, with last year being the first united addition of the Ballon d’Or.
The Ballon d’Or was already the gold standard when it came to individual awards, and the partnership with UEFA has cemented that position.
The other set of major individual awards come in the shape of The Best FIFA Football Awards, which focus on achievements over a calendar year rather than season-by-season.

The Ballon d’Or awards and French football are intrinsically linked, but there’s only been one French winner of the men’s award since Zinedine Zidane in 1998. Could that become two this year?
Ousmane Dembele should be a certainty to be amongst the nominees later today, and the Paris Saint-Germain forward has been tipped by many to take the top award.

Barcelona midfielder Gavi believes that the winner of the Men’s Ballon d’Or should be his teammate, Lamine Yamal. It’s not exactly a neutral view, but Gavi may well end up being correct, with the 18-year-old among the favourites with the bookies.
Yamal’s season was extraordinary, scoring 18 goals and registering 25 assists as Barca won a domestic treble.
"I hope he does [win the Ballon d'Or]," Gavi told Diario AS.
"If not this year, he’s only 18 and still very young. Being among the favourites already is something special. I’m happy with everything he’s doing with us."

08:30 - Not just the Ballon d’Or nominees
The main event is coming up later on today when the full list of contenders for the Men’s and Women’s Ballon d’Or awards are confirmed. But that’s not the only thing we’re going to get today.
We will also learn the nominees for a series of other major awards, including the Kopa Trophy for best young player, the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper, the Cruyff Trophy for best coach, and the award for the best club over the course of last season. Details of those nominees will come before the Ballon d’Or finale this afternoon.
08:20 - When is the Ballon d’Or ceremony?
All of the nominees will be announced today, and the players won’t have long to wait before finding out the winner, with the ceremony itself coming up in just over a month’s time.
The glitzy awards night is set to be held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on Monday 22 September, with UEFA partnering with Groupe Amaury and L’Équipe once again to run the prestigious annual awards.
08:10 - How does the Ballon d'Or voting work?
With the committee, which is made up of journalists from France Football and L’Equipe, choosing 30 names, there are a select number of players that can be voted for.
Once the two lists are released, one football journalist from each of the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations will cast a vote for their top 10 players.
Within their top 10, there is a points system, which is then tallied up and used to work out the winner of the Ballon d’Or.
The points are awarded as follows:
- First Place: 15 points
- Second Place: 12 points
- Third place: 10 points
- Fourth place: 8 points
- Fifth place: 7 points
- Sixth place: 5 points
- Seventh place: 4 points
- Eighth place: 3 points
- Ninth place: 2 points
- Tenth place: 1 point
Coming in first is the player with the most points, from 30th up to first.
