Ballon d'Or 2025: Sarina Wiegman nominated for Johan Cruyff Trophy after Lionesses Euros triumph, Arne Slot and Enzo Maresca in hunt for men's award

Sarina Wiegman has been nominated for the women's Johan Cruyff Trophy after leading England to back-to-back European Championship triumphs, while Premier League duo Arne Slot and Enzo Maresca are in the hunt for the men's award. The Johan Cruyff Trophy is awarded to the best men's and women's manager of the previous season.

The nominees have been confirmed for the women's and men's Johan Cruyff Trophies, alongside the women's and men's club of the year.

There is plenty of English interest across all four award categories, with Sarina Wiegman earning a nomination for the women's Johan Cruyff Trophy award.

Wiegman continued her incredible personal record at major finals, most recently leading the Lionesses to a historic defence of their title at Euro 2025.

She faces stiff competition from Sonia Bompastor, who led Chelsea to an unbeaten Women's Super League title success.

Meanwhile, Renee Slegers enjoyed an incredible year north of the River Thames with Arsenal, guiding the side to victory in the Women's Champions League, beating Barcelona in the final to earn her a spot on the list.

Nigeria's Justine Madugu is included after guiding the Super Falcons to a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, alongside Arthur Elias, who led Brazil to Copa America Femenina success.

Arne Slot had a superb first season in charge of Liverpool after leading his side to the Premier League title at a canter, equalling Manchester United's record of 20 league championships.

Enzo Maresca also earns his place on the five-man shortlist after his Chelsea side won the inaugural revamped FIFA Club World Cup, defeating Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

Luis Enrique was the losing manager in that final, but ensured PSG won their first-ever European title following a 5-0 annihilation of Internazionale in the UEFA Champions League final.

Antonio Conte, who led Napoli to a Serie A title, and Barcelona's domestic treble-winning coach, Hansi Flick, complete the list of nominations.

National Women's Soccer League champions, Orlando Pride, complete the women's club list.

The remainder of the men's section is completed by Copa Libertadores champions, Botafogo, Liverpool and PSG.
