Renee Slegers was proud of Arsenal's response against West Ham and Dario Vidosic criticised Brighton after their defeat against Manchester City. The Gunners had to battle back from a goal down to secure all three points on Friday night and move into first place in the Women's Super League table. City also came back from a goal behind to claim victory.

Slegers proud of Arsenal response

Renee Slegers praised Arsenal’s response to going a goal behind in their thumping 5-1 victory over West Ham in the Women's Super League.

The Gunners were 1-0 down inside five minutes after goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar dropped Shekiera Martinez’s cross into her own net.

However, the visitors battled back in some style, with an Alessia Russo double and goals from Frida Maanum, Stina Blackstenius and Caitlin Foord.

Slegers believes that her side’s composure after going 1-0 down was what allowed them to secure all three points.

"There was already a strong foundation," Slegers told Sky Sports.

"My role shifted from assistant coach to interim coach to head coach, so my advantage was already knowing the group.

"The players have been a big part of what we're building.

"It was a hard game. We were prepared for a hard game, but they came out differently.

"This ground is really hard to go to because they are a very disciplined team and their intensity was really high across 90 minutes.

"We had to overcome going 1-0 down again, but we were very calm and composed, which allowed us to come back into the game."

Vidosic criticises Brighton after City defeat

Dario Vidosic admitted that Brighton could not put two passes together in the second half of their 2-1 defeat against Manchester City in the Women’s Super League.

The Seagulls were 1-0 up at half-time thanks to a strike from Fran Kirby in the 14th minute.

However, Khadija Shaw got the hosts back on level terms after the break, before Yui Hasegawa secured Andree Jeglertz's first Women's Super League victory as City manager.

Vidosic criticised his side’s execution in the final third, telling Sky Sports: "From the kick off we went all the way back [to the keeper] and that sort of set the tone for the whole half.

"We still had a couple of opportunities but they had a lot more.

"If we give the ball away then we are continuously caught in transition and then we are defending.

"It is not just a defensive issue, it is a collective issue.

"In the second half we couldn't put two passes together - whether it's the turnaround, they had seven days, we had five days, I don't know. We need to learn to not let the result go.

"First half was good and there were some moments that we had a bit better control and had possession in their half.

"We had an opportunity five on four and again the final pass and decision making was wrong. Over the two games that final third is letting us down."
