Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have congratulated Paris Saint-Germain after their former side won the UEFA Champions League with a 5-0 thrashing of Internazionale. Victory in Munich saw PSG become European champions for the first time in their history, with Mbappe and Neymar failing to do so during their time in Paris. But the pair made sure to offer their congratulations to their old team at full time.

Former Paris Saint-Germain stars Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have congratulated the French side after they lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy for the first time in their history.

Luis Enrique’s men finally ended their wait for European glory on Saturday night as they thrashed Internazionale 5-0 in Munich.

Despite having failed to win the Champions League during their time in Paris, Mbappe and Neymar gave their congratulations to their former side.

Mbappe said on social media: "The big day has finally arrived. The victory and the style of an entire club. Congratulations, PSG."

Meanwhile, Neymar shared a photo on his instagram of PSG lifting the trophy and captioned the image: "Congratulations."

The pair came closest to lifting the Champions League with PSG in 2020 but were beaten in the final by Bayern Munich.

Mbappe spent seven seasons in Paris before joining Real Madrid last summer, shortly after Los Blancos claimed their 15th European title.

Despite the Frenchman finishing as La Liga top scorer in his first season in the Spanish capital, his side failed to land any silverware, meaning Champions League glory continues to elude him.

Discussing Mbappe after the game, manager Luis Enrique said PSG’s Champions League triumph following the attacker’s departure from the club has shown the importance of players serving the team and "not the other way around".

The Spaniard said: "We would have loved to have him, but his decision was different, one we accepted.

"The coach has to make his players believe it's possible. We've shown that we have stars that serve the team, not the other way around."

Meanwhile, PSG’s Ousmane Dembele, who has stepped into Mbappe’s shoes this season as the French side’s talismanic figure, said before the game: "Is the game easier without Mbappe? No. Maybe with him we would have been even better this season.

"Mbappe had a dream in his career to play at Real Madrid... and PSG continued on its path. There is a before and an after Kylian."

As for Neymar, the 33-year-old left PSG 12 months before Mbappe, in the summer of 2023, but unlike the Frenchman, he has not missed out on a maiden Champions League title by leaving Paris.

The Brazilian won the competition a decade ago, also under Enrique, as Barcelona won the treble.

Neymar played a key role in their success that season in a front-three that also included Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
