Arsenal 0-1 Paris Saint-Germain result: Ousmane Dembele’s early strike leaves The Gunners with it all to do in the second leg in Paris

Ousmane Dembele struck an early winner as Paris Saint-Germain secured a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final at the Emirates.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta had called for the supporters to bring the energy to produce one of the stadium’s greatest ever nights heading into the contest, but the crowd were silenced on four minutes when a slick attack saw Dembele fire in his 35th goal of the season for club and country via the far post.

Desire Doue and Marquinhos both had chances to double PSG’s advantage, while at the other end, Gabriel Martinelli was denied by a magnificent save from Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Gunners improved following the interval with Mikel Merino’s header being chalked off by VAR for offside and Donnarumma again producing heroics to tip Leandro Trossard’s effort past the post.

PSG substitutes Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos then blew late chances to make it two, but the defeat still leaves Arteta’s men with it all to do heading into next week’s second leg.

Arsenal will now host Bournemouth in the Premier League before visiting the Parc des Princes on Wednesday. 

The Gunners stopper offered his verdict on the defeat shortly after full-time.

"They started very quick with a goal and they dominated the first 15-20 minutes - after that we dominated most of the game and created the chances. Donnarumma made some brilliant saves," said Raya.

"It’s only half-time. We take a lot of positives from this. We know they are a top, top, top team, but credit to the players for the effort we put on the pitch that we could have won the game as well".

Dembele has been directly involved in 11 goals in the UEFA Champions League this season (eight goals, three assists).

It sees him equal Kylian Mbappe’s record for most goal involvements by a PSG player in a single edition of the competition (11 in 2020-21 – eight goals, three assists).

"I think Paris Saint-Germain have been the better team. It's not an impossible task for Arsenal, but they know they are up against a very good side - it's a very difficult one."

Rice did tumble in the build up there and the supporters would probably have preferred to have seen him have a pop from a resulting free kick had the referee not played advantage.

It's another big, big opportunity for the visitors as Ramos darts after long ball and jabs a rising shot from inside the area againast the crossbar.

It really ought to be 2-0.

Barcola fires a low shot agonisingly wide of the far post after a wonderful one-touch move saw him put through by Ramos.

Kvaratskhelia jinks in from the left, searching for an angle for the shot but when he does eventually pull the trigger he gets it horribly wrong and it flies harmlessly over the crossbar.

Neves arcs a 20-yard shot over the bar after PSG seized upon a loose ball and raided neatly down the right.

Saka somehow wriggles past a couple of defenders and forces a low save out of Donnarumma at his near post.

The flag then goes up for an offside against Trossard in the build up.
