BAYERN STUN REAL IN BREATHLESS CLASSIC

Bayern Munich will face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after seeing off Real Madrid in a 4-3 thriller on Wednesday night.

Vincent Kompany's side sealed a 6-4 aggregate victory over the 15-time champions, following on from their 2-1 win at the Bernabeu last week.

Madrid made a brilliant game of it in Munich, levelling the tie on aggregate on three occasions before late stunners from Luis Diaz and Michael Olise - after Eduardo Camavinga saw red - won it for Bayern.

Arda Guler took less than a minute to score the opener, firing in from no fewer than 30 yards. It was a rare howler from legendary Bayern ‘keeper Manuel Neuer, who was in no man’s land after passing straight to the scorer.

Aleksandar Pavlovic did not take long to equalise for the hosts, restoring their advantage with a header. It was another goalkeeping error as Andriy Lunin flapped at Joshua Kimmich’s inswinging corner.

Guler then made it 3-3 on aggregate with his second of the night, a stunning 25-yard free-kick on 29 minutes. Neuer got a hand to it but Madrid’s young Turk got enough whip on his strike to find the top corner.

Harry Kane, well and truly in the Ballon d’Or conversation, netted his 50th goal of the season to make it 4-3 to Bayern with a composed finish from a Dayot Upamecano pass inside.

But Kylian Mbappe, the tournament’s top scorer, netted his 15th Champions League goal of the campaign just before half-time, once again levelling up the tie - this time 4-4 on aggregate.

The second half may not have begun as breathlessly as the first but the chances kept on flowing for both sides.

Diaz had a shot deflected inches wide, Mbappe was denied by Neuer at point-blank range and Olise forced a fingertip save from Lunin.

It looked destined to go the distance but two yellow cards for Madrid substitute Camavinga - one for a foul on Jamal Musiala and another for dissent - swung this Champions League classic back in Bayern’s favour.

Diaz, making use of the extra space on the edge of the area following Camavinga’s red, fired in a beauty on 89 minutes, deflecting in off Eder Militao to break Madrid hearts.

Olise then made sure, whipping a stunner in off the underside of the crossbar with the final kick of the game.

If Bayern’s semi-final against PSG contains even half the drama of this tie, then we’re in for an absolute treat.

50 GOALS 'NOT POSSIBLE' WITHOUT BAYERN TEAMMATES

Kane insists it's not just his graft that has led to his remarkable landmark of 50 goals so far this term.

On reaching half a century, Kane told TNT Sports: "I think it’s a reward for a lot of the hard work we put in, not just me, the whole team.

"It wouldn’t be possible without the players around me.

"For me, it’s just about keeping it going. We’ve got six weeks left in a Bayern shirt, we’ve got a World Cup in the summer.

"I just want to stay physically fit and sharp and be out there to help the team. I feel like whenever I’m out there, I’m able to make the keeper work or get my shots off quickly.

"And today, it was good to put that one away early. I’ll do what it takes to help the team, scoring goals, defending, assists, whatever it is. I just enjoy being out there with these boys."

KANE DELIGHTED TO PROGRESS

Harry Kane knew Bayern had to give it their all to see off Madrid.

Kane told TNT Sports: "We feel amazing now. It was a tough game.

"We knew Real Madrid in the Champions League have this special connection and you need to be at the highest level to knock them out. And we’ve done that.

"First half was a little bit crazy, getting off to the worst possible start. But we got back into the game well, we looked like the most dangerous team.

"But they have players in transition who can really hurt you and that’s what punished us.

"In the second half, we had to be a bit more patient. We knew as the game went on, we’d get stronger and fitter and physically better.

"We were able to take our chances towards the end."

ARBELOA: CAMAVINGA RED CARD 'UNFAIR'

Real Madrid's head coach was not happy with Camavinga's red card.

But not because his midfielder lost his cool. Rather, Arbeloa thinks it was an unjust decision.

Arbeloa told TNT Sports: "It’s unbelievable that you send off a player for this action. I can’t believe that.

"It’s not possible in a play like that, in a match like that that you’re sent off for this.

"We feel really upset, really angry, really disappointed and all of this is a little bit unfair."

On whether it was a season-defining game: "Maybe, because in La Liga, everything is really difficult.

"Nine points the difference to Barcelona but we have some matches to play and we have to give our best."

GERRARD: ARBELOA DESERVES TO KEEP JOB

It awaits to be seen whether Real Madrid will decide to part ways with head coach Alvaro Arbeloa.

If it was up to Gerrard, the former Spain international full-back would stay in the job.

Gerrard told TNT Sports: "I feel sorry for Arbeloa and I feel sorry for a lot of the Real Madrid players because to a man, they were so much better than last week and they were excellent all over the pitch.

"He probably will lose his job but I don’t think he deserves to on the evidence of tonight."

'THE GAME HAD EVERYTHING'

TNT Sports' Steve McManaman and Steven Gerrard had a thoroughly enjoyable night at the Allianz Arena.

Gerrard reflected: "The game had everything. Fascinating, both managers tactically.

"Bayern with all the control, trying to open Real Madrid’s block. But how dangerous are Real Madrid?

"With Vini Jr. and Mbappe and you’ve got Guler and Diaz who can feed that pass on that counter-attack, it was absolutely magnificent to be here live.

"The atmosphere was unbelievable. And if the semi-final can follow anything like these last two games, we’re in for something special."

McManaman added: "Before the game, we thought it was going to be chaotic, we thought it was going to be exciting and we were proved right."

CAMAVINGA RED THE TURNING POINT

In a rollercoaster game, that silly Camavinga red may have been the pivotal moment.

Madrid were so much better defensively when Camavinga was the deepest midfielder in the pivot. As soon as he went off, Los Blancos were vulnerable once more.

Luis Diaz was the first to take advantage, making it 5-4 on aggregate with a brilliant strike from that space on the edge of the area.

Then there were acres for Olise to run into for his brilliant goal late on.
