In a match they needed to win to keep their faint hopes of continuing in the competition alive, FK Bodo/Glimt produced an outstanding all-round team performance to defeat 10-man Manchester City 3-1.
Bodo played host to City on Matchday 7 of the UEFA Champions League, with City looking to all but secure their spot in the automatic qualification places. But with Bodo needing to win to give themselves a fighting chance of staying in the tournament, the Norwegian side delivered a huge performance on a memorable night at Aspmyra Stadion.
With his squad hit with injuries and suspensions, Pep Guardiola made four changes for the match, and his re-jigged defence was carved open time and time again by the hard-running Bodo front three of Kacper Hogh, Jens Petter Hauge and Ole Didrick Blomberg.
The hosts made the breakthrough on 21 minutes when Blomberg burst into the box, slipped, got back up and flighted a perfect cross to the back post, where Hogh rose to head down and under Gianluigi Donnarumma in the City goal.
If that goal stunned City, Bodo's second, just one minute, 58 seconds later, totally floored the Premier League giants.
Another counter attack saw Hauge break down the right flank before crossing perfectly for Hogh to emphatically sweep home to send the Bodo fans into delirium.
That delirium turned into total disbelief in the second half when Hauge produced a piece of brilliance to score Bodo's third with one of the best goals of the competition so far this season. And while Hakon Evjen and Hogh had two more efforts ruled out for offside, the hosts remained in charge throughout a wild second half.
Following Hauge's wonder strike, City quickly pulled a goal back through Rayan Cherki, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinquished when Rodri was sent off after committing two bookable offences just 53 seconds apart.
