NO SALAH, NO PROBLEM AS LIVERPOOL SECURE HARD-FOUGHT WIN AT INTER
Dominik Szoboszlai struck a late penalty as Liverpool shrugged off the media frenzy surrounding Mohamed Salah’s absence to secure an impressive 1-0 victory at Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.
The Egyptian’s surprising outburst at Leeds United dominated the pre-match build-up, but the visitors did their talking on the pitch as the more assertive force in the first half.
Ibrahima Konate had a header ruled out for hand ball in the build up following a lengthy VAR check while Alisson showed smart reactions to push away Lautaro Martinez’s powerful header on the stroke of half time.
The second period was a much more even affair with chances at a premium, but VAR got involved again two minutes from time after substitute Florian Wirtz’s shirt was pulled by Alessandro Bastoni.
Szoboszlai stepped up to gleefully fire his spot kick beyond Yann Sommer and secure three crucial points.

The result sees Inter drop to fifth in the League Phase standings with 12 points from six outings after seeing their 18-match unbeaten home run in the competition come to an end. Liverpool rise to eighth, level on points with The Nerazzurri but behind the Serie A outfit on goal difference.
Next up, Liverpool, who are now four matches unbeaten, host Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday. Inter visit Genoa in Serie A on Sunday.

FORMER ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL ALAN SHEARER REACTS TO LIVERPOOL'S WIN
"It’s the perfect away performance.," Shearer said on Amazon Prime. "They kept it tight at the back in and around defensively and there was actually no way through for Inter Milan. They had that one opportunity (through Martinez) but that was it.
"Liverpool were a threat in attack, especially when Wirtz came on. He made a difference.
"As much as I disagreed with Liverpool’s disallowed goal, I do disagree about the penalty – but who cares from a Liverpool point of view... From an Arne Slot point of view, he had a point to prove. His team have done him a big favour there in winning tonight, a really impressive away Champions League performance."

THIS WOULD BE A HUGE WIN FOR ARNE SLOT
It has been a tough few days for Liverpool and their Head Coach, but their call to leave out the outspoken Salah may well prove to be the right one.

SOME INTERESTING QUOTES FROM THIERRY HENRY ON THE MO SALAH DEBATE
"I had problems with Wenger, with Guardiola…
"Have you ever heard me talk about it publicly? NEVER. I protected the club.
"When you play for a club, you must protect it at all costs. No matter what’s happening internally, you protect the club; your teammates, the manager, the staff.
"You can be angry, frustrated, disagree… but you don’t air dirty laundry in public, especially when the club is going through difficult moments.
"Instead, you wait, you sort things out internally, and then, if you want to leave or speak your mind, you do it at the right time.
"I understand the ego and Mo’s frustration...
"He scores 38 goals and ends up on the bench, but there comes a point where you must put the team before yourself."
