Ousmane Dembele plans 'something big' against Arsenal in UEFA Champions League final after PSG win Ligue 1 title

Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Ibrahim Mbaye saw PSG beat second-placed Lens 2-0 to seal the title for the fifth year in a row.

PSG wrap up their domestic season on Sunday against neighbours Paris FC and then have two weeks to prepare to face Arsenal in Budapest on May 30, live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.

"We wanted to come and win here,” said Dembele after the victory over Lens. "As we said, we especially want to prepare for the final on May 30. We had to play a serious match. We have another one on Sunday. We are going to celebrate because it is official, we are champions."

PSG are bidding to become the first team since Real Madrid in 2018 to win back-to-back Champions League titles. If PSG do lift the trophy again then it will also enhance Dembele’s chances of a second straight Ballon d’Or victory.

Dembele, who was named the Ligue 1 Player of the Season despite only 10 starting appearances, says he is ”very relaxed” about the prospect of winning the Ballon d'Or for a second straight year.

”As I said, individual trophies, they come after. If it comes, that's good; if it doesn't come, that's how it is. The most important thing is the team titles. We won Ligue 1, the European Supercup, and the Intercontinental Cup. On May 30, we have something big for PSG fans.”

PSG were pushed harder in Ligue 1 this season compared to a year ago, when they won the title with six games to spare.

Wednesday's match against Lens was originally scheduled for April 11, when just a point separated the sides, but was rearranged to assist PSG's Champions League ambitions.

"This is the sweetest and hardest title to win,” said head coach Luis Enrique. ”The hardest of the three years we’ve had here, without a doubt. But that’s also because Lens did a very good job.

"And I remember certain moments from this season, the kind of matches they won and the number of consecutive matches they won. And it was tricky. We had to deal with that."

PSG have won the Ligue 1 title 14 times, with 12 of those triumphs coming in the past 14 seasons.

Only Lille (2020/21) and Monaco (2016/17) have been able to break PSG’s dominance since the 2012/13 season.

Enrique praised the mentality of his side at both ends of the pitch following their victory over Lens.

"Today, we spent more ⁠time defending ‌than usual," he said. "But if you want to ​win trophies, you have to be able to dominate both offensively and ​defensively. And the team today showed the mentality it needs to win."

Lens have the chance to win silverware when they face Nice in the Coupe de France final on May 22.
