William Saliba has laid out his trophy-filled ambitions for the future at Arsenal after signing a new long-term deal at the club.

The contract ends any speculation over a possible move away from the Emirates for the defender, whose previous deal was set to expire in 2027.

Saliba is a key part of Arsenal’s defence and has made 140 appearances in all competitions since joining in 2019.

He has said he believes he can "become the best" defender in the world under Mikel Arteta, and he also has his sights on winning silverware with the Gunners.

"We want everything," he told TNT Sports ahead of Arsenal’s home match with Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

"We play every competition to win. I feel at home here, we have a good team, we have a good staff, good coach, we are always close to winning something, so I wanted to stay and win titles with this club."

Arsenal won their opening Champions League match against Athletic Club and have also made a strong start in the Premier League with four wins from six matches.

They trail leaders Liverpool by two points and Saliba says the increased competition in the squad - boosted by around £250 million of summer spending - can drive the team on.

"In every position we have one more player you can start," Saliba said. "Everyone on the bench can start the game as well. It’s good because we are pushing each other to be better.

"I did some good things on the pitch the last few years but I want to keep going…you have to fight. In this team we have good defenders with me and good players on the bench too. It helps us."

Arsenal needed an injury-time winner from Gabriel to come from behind and beat Newcastle on Sunday.

The goal was greeted by a wild celebration from Saliba, whose first reaction was to turn towards the Arsenal fans high up in the stands at St James’ Park and throw his arms up into the air.

It is not the first time that Saliba has enthusiastically celebrated an Arsenal.

"I am so happy when my team-mates score a goal, especially when a game is not easy and we score the winner," he explained.

"I don’t know how to describe it, I become like someone else, I am so happy. That’s why I always celebrate like this."

Saliba’s form over the last few years has seen him recognised as one of the top defenders in Europe.

He says he still has a "lot of things to improve. I am 24 and I can do much better."
