KOUNDE GRABS THE GLORY IN PULSATING COPA DEL REY FINAL
Barcelona have won the Copa del Rey for the 32nd time after beating Real Madrid 3-2 in a sensational, ill-tempered final in Madrid.
Jules Kounde drove the winning goal in injury-time to settle a thrilling, topsy-turvy contest.
Barcelona were much the better team in the first half and led deservedly through a screamer from Pedri. But Kylian Mbappe, who was not fit enough to start the game, dragged Real back into contention after coming on at half-time.
Mbappe equalised in the 70th minute with a fine free-kick, and seven minutes later Aurelien Tchouameni headed in from Arda Guler’s corner.
Ferran Torres equalised against the run of play, finishing expertly from Lamine Yamal’s long pass, and there was drama in injury time when Barcelona were awarded a penalty for a foul by Raul Asencio on Raphinha. The referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, under so much scrutiny before the game, reversed his decision on the advice of VAR.
Both teams were tired in extra-time, with a penalty shootout feeling inevitable. But then Kounde stole a square pass from Luka Modric and beat Thibaut Courtois with a precise low shot from 25 yards.
A spiteful contest came to the boil in injury time, when Real’s Antonio Rudiger – who had been substituted earlier in the game – threw something at the referee and was sent off. He then had to be restrained from going onto the pitch to confront the referee.
It was an unpleasant ending to a largely exhilarating final. Barcelona's hopes of the Treble are still alive; Real have only La Liga to play for.

GOOD DEFENDING BY KOUNDE
Guler shapes a lovely cross that just evades Bellingham in the middle. Kounde did really well to ensure he couldn't get a clear run at the ball.

After a poor spell, in which both teams tried it on with the referee, Ferran Torres turns sharply in the area and drags a shot a couple of yards wide of the far post.

VAR CHECK
It's still being checked. There's no doubt Raphinha made the most of it but there was contact. The referee has been sent to the monitor! In the context of the build-up to the game, this is an extraordinary moment.
