    ENGLAND ROMP PAST COSTA RICA TO HEAD INTO WORLD CUP ON A HIGH
    England completed their preparations for the World Cup with a dominant 3-0 win over Costa Rica sealed by goals from Declan Rice, Anthony Gordon and Ollie Watkins in a weather-delayed Orlando friendly.
    Kick-off was pushed back an hour in Florida after thunderstorms and heavy rain in the area, but a strong Three Lions side were seemingly unfazed by the delay as they roared out of the blocks.
    Gordon sparked the opener after 11 minutes as a burst of speed took him to the byline before his cut-back found Rice, whose shot took a deflection on its way into the bottom corner.
    It was a deserved reward for a lively and commanding start from Thomas Tuchel’s side, who pressed for a second as Harry Kane’s glancing header forced a sharp save before Noni Madueke rounded the keeper but hit the post when attempting to tap in a seemingly simple finish.
    Thomas Tuchel rolled on six substitutes after the hour mark, but it was the lively Gordon who found the second goal, rifling home a spot kick after an Eberechi Eze shot hit a stray arm.
    Watkins could only fire wide when one-on-one with the keeper late on, but he made amends at the death by heading in a simple rebound after Morgan Rogers’ effort was parried into his path.
    A confidence-boosting win and commanding performance send England into the tournament on a high ahead of their Group L opener against Croatia in Dallas next Wednesday.
