Barcelona 4-0 Real Sociedad: Robert Lewandowski on target as Hansi Flick's side thrash 10-man Sociedad in La Liga

Hansi Flick's Barcelona side cruised past 10-man Real Sociedad to move top of La Liga as they won 4-0 at the Luis Companys Olympic Stadium.

Goals from Gerard Martin, Marc Casado, Ronald Araujo and Robert Lewandowski saw Barcelona make it six straight victories in La Liga, as they moved a point clear of second place Atletico Madrid and three points clear of Real Madrid.

Real Sociedad saw an early opener disallowed for offside when Sergio Gomez's effort was disallowed for Javi Lopez's overlapping run, and the visitors soon found themselves a man down when captain Aritz Elustondo was deemed to have denied a goal scoring opportunity by pulling Dani Olmo down to the ground.

Barcelona quickly dominated proceedings thereon, with Hansi Flick's side taking the lead in the 25th minute, thanks to an unlikely goalscorer in Martin, who fired home his first senior goal.

The home side doubled their lead just four minutes later when another unlikely goalscorer in Casado managed to get a touch on Olmo's strike from the edge of the box to divert it past Alex Remiro.

Barca claimed their third of the match just after half-time as another defender in the shape of Araujo headed home the parried save from Lewandowski's header.

Lewandowski claimed Barcelona's fourth of the game and his 21st league goal of the season in the 60th minute as he poked home Araujo's strike from distance to make it a comfortable outing in front of the home fans.

Next up, Barcelona are in UEFA Champions League action as they travel to face Benfica in the round of 16 first leg on Wednesday, March 5, whilst Real Sociedad host Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, March 6.
