Barcelona v Athletic Club LIVE - Hansi Flick's side romp to 4-0 victory on return to Camp Nou

It was the dream start to the match for the Blaugrana, who took the lead after just four minutes after some disastrous defending from Athletic Club. The visitors were punished for not clearing their lines, with the ball running through to Robert Lewandowski who took a brilliant touch to take the ball away from Andoni Gorosabel before firing his effort past Unai Simon.

Athletic Club had a huge chance to equalise five minutes before the break, when Yuri Berchiche’s low cross from the left-hand side found Nico Williams, but the 23-year-old could only smash his effort into the side netting.

It was a miss that Ernesto Valverde’s side would live to rue, with Barcelona scoring a second just minutes later. This time Ferran Torres latched onto a Lamine Yamal pass to squeeze an effort underneath Simon and into the back of the net.

Flick’s side started the second half as they finished the first, netting inside the opening  four minutes, with Fermin Lopez latching onto Eric Garcia’s through ball before firing past Simon to make it 3-0.

Athletic’s night went from bad to worse after 54 minutes when Oihan Sancet’s yellow card for a foul on Fermin Lopez was upgraded to a red following a VAR review.

Torres put the icing on the cake for the Blaugrana in stoppage time after some sensational work from Yamal. The wonderkid twisted and turned away from three Athletic players before playing an inch-perfect pass through to Torres who did the rest, smartly firing past Simon.

Barcelona return to the summit of La Liga on 31 points, level with Real Madrid who take on Elche tomorrow. For Athletic Club, that’s now four defeats from their last five matches across all competitions, a run that has seen them concede 10 goals across those four defeats and scoring just twice.
